Underdog Fantasy Daily Pick’Em Entry – September 26
Zack Thompson – Higher than 2.5 Earned Runs Allowed
Lefty Zack Thompson takes the hill for St. Louis on Tuesday night, and he hasn’t been great as of late. In fact, he’s gone over this projection in each of his four starts this month. He’s repping a 5.73 ERA in September. That can largely be attributed to an uptick in fly balls and home runs allowed. He’ll face the Brewers, who coincidentally was the last team he faced – yielding four earned and a pair of dingers.
Michael King – Higher than 5.5 Strikeouts
King is likely due for some negative regression in this start, and the projection is certainly counting on it. He’s struck out 13, 9, and 8 in his last three starts, respectively, after never having more than five all year. Maybe he’s just getting lucky, or maybe he’s figured something out.
No matter what side of the luckiness coin you fall on, King is facing the same Jays squad that he got last time out. I can see him regressing a bit from the lines he’s been putting up. But he doesn’t even need half of his strikeouts from the last game against the Jays to meet this.
Ian Happ – Higher than 0.5 Batter Walks
Happ has really increased his plate discipline this month. He’s already walked 15 times in September, which is 150% of his August walks, with a week still to play. He’s walked four times in the last four games as well. He’ll face Bryce Elder, who has seen some command issues as of late. He’s walked 10 batters in his last four starts combined. I’ll still take a chance that one slides to Happ as one of my favorite MLB player picks for September 26.
