Underdog Fantasy Daily Pick’Em Entry – August 27
Mike Clevinger – Lower than 2.5 Earned Runs
Clevinger has been solid this season and particularly of late. He’s held teams to two or less earned in four of his last six starts. He also just doesn’t go above that number unless he allows a home run. Only once this year has his opponent scored more than two runs in a game they didn’t homer in. Oakland ranks 23rd in home runs in the MLB, so as long as he keeps them in the yard, this projection should land.
Christian Yelich – Higher than 8.0 Fantasy Points
The resurgence of Christian Yelich has been a lot of fun. The bounceback hasn’t gotten him all the way back to his MVP status, but he’s a huge part of this Brewers run. The thing I like best about the projection on his fantasy points is that he’s filling out the stat sheet lately. He has walks in three straight games and stole a pair of bags last night.
It also certainly doesn’t hurt that he’s facing a pitcher he’s comfortable against. He’s hitting .316 with a .737 slugging against Michael Wacha. 67% of his hits against the Padres’ starter have gone for extra bases, making this one of my favorite MLB plays for August 27.
Mickey Moniak – Higher than 0.5 Total Bases
This seems comically low as Moniak has been solid as of late. He’s got five hits in his last four games and is starting to look like the guy who was hitting over .300 in both June and July. While August has been his worst month yet, facing the Mets can always be a help – and he homered off them last night.
