The fun has begun! College football is back upon us with lots of drama and intrigue throughout the sport in 2023. Here are a few week zero best bets and picks to get things rolling this season!
Week Zero Best Bets and Picks
Navy to COVER the +20.5 point spread against Notre Dame
In a big opening game played in Ireland, the Midshipmen’s combination of a slow pace and an effective offense should keep this game closer than the large spread implies. The Fighting Irish is a classically slow starting team, and while they should win this first battle, 20.5 points are too many to give to Navy.
Florida International to COVER the +10.5 spread against Louisana Tech
The spread on this game is too wide for what to expect on Saturday evening in Ruston, Louisiana. In 2022, FIU won this matchup, 42-34. Florida Interational’s effective offense should be able to put up points against Louisana Tech and keep this closer than the 10.5 spread.
Hawaii and Vanderbilt to go OVER the 55-point total
This is the tale of two very bad defenses. Neither team ranked very highly in any defensive category last season. Vanderbilt, the 17.5-point favorite, should put points on their way to opening-night victory at home against the Rainbow Warriors. Hawaii’s Brayden Schager will be back at quarterback in 2023 to put up some points of his own as well.
Ohio to WIN at +130 over San Deigo State
Ohio is coming off of a MAC championship appearance in 2022. This highly efficient offense picked up nine victories in a challenging, evenly-matched conference last season. San Diego State finished 2022 just one game over .500. This should be a close game, but the value is in the underdog here.
