Zuckerberg vs Musk MMA Fight Odds & Analysis

Now there is an article title I never expected to type: ‘Zuckerberg vs. Musk MMA Fight Odds & Analysis.’ The things we do for money. Apparently, the world’s two most famous billionaires, Facebook kingpin Mark Zuckerberg and Tesla, Twitter, and SpaceX boss Elon Musk are interested in fighting each other. In a cage. For us to watch (and bet on). And UFC boss Dana White is already on the case trying to make this come to fruition. Life is just full of surprises.

Zuckerberg vs. Musk MMA Fight Odds & Analysis

So how did we get here? Well, rumors have been floated that Mark Zuckerberg is thinking of starting up a rival version of Twitter. Which Elon Musk replied, “I’m up for a cage match if he is, lol.”. Apparently, that’s all it takes to get the ball rolling. UFC boss Dana White says both men are “deadly serious” about stepping into the cage (or, if the UFC is involved, the ‘octagon’) to settle the score.

As White explains in the video above, he would expect this fight to be the biggest fight in history, topping Floyd Mayweather vs. Conor McGregor, which is typical Dana White hyperbole. But who’s to say he’s wrong? When my 12-year-old son caught wind of what I was writing about, he got all excited and said he’d love to see that fight. When/if it does happen, it sounds like White will use it to promote his brand, the UFC, and fill the undercard with actual real UFC fighters he’s looking to get maximum exposure on. So Bill Gates vs. Jeff Bezos is a no-go?! Larry Page vs. Steve Balmer?! C’mon!

Fight Analysis?

Should I really do an analysis of this fight?! Really?! Well, the article title says ‘analysis,’ so here goes.

We’ll start with the ‘tale of the tape,’ which, when dealing with fairly untrained combatants, is the most important factor. Mark Zuckerberg is 39 years old, while Elon Musk is 51. That’s a huge plus in the Facebook King’s ledger. However, Musk is 6’1″, while Zuckerberg is only 5’7″. That’s a big advantage for Musk, assuming this is a regular rule MMA fight and not just a jiu-jitsu or grappling competition. All things being equal, you’d expect Musk to have about half a foot of reach on Zuckerberg, which is a massive advantage in the striking department.

Musk is also estimated to weigh around the middleweight limit (185 pounds), while Zuckerberg is a lightweight (155 pounds). They’d have to fight at a catchweight, or whichever athletic commission sanctions the fight would have to agree to something (I’m sure money can grease those wheels). So in terms of biological traits, I’d give the advantage to Musk.

However, when it comes to actual fighting, Zuckerberg has to be given the advantage. A Brazilian Jiu-Jitsu practitioner over the past couple of years, he recently won a tournament in the white belt, 149-pound division in the sport.

While it’s always better to be bigger in a fight, once the fight hits the ground, all bets are off. I’d much rather be a trained, smaller fighter like Zuckerberg than a bigger, older, untrained one like Musk. While Musk claims to have trained in various martial arts as a child, got into street fights, and dabbled a bit in BJJ recently, he isn’t a serious practitioner like Zuckerberg is, who, on top of training, also was front row at a recent UFC event.

And the fight odds speak to this. Yes, we have odds listed on this fight already. Zuckerberg sits at -500, Musk at +300. My money is going on the chalk here – younger, better trained – Zuckerberg is the pick.
