Los Angeles Country Club, what a beautiful track. We head there for Major number three of the season, and we have a beautiful event on our hands. This is a golf course we have not seen before on the PGA Tour, and we will have to take a stand on the types of golfers who will have success.
Personally, I believe we will see a nice comparison of Muirfield Village leaderboards here at LACC. Why is that, you ask? I believe iron play and around-the-green play will be the two biggest stats here. These fairways are extremely generous for a US Open venue which will let the bombers bomb away and dial in the iron play. The greens, on the other hand, are very undulating and tricky. Let’s take a look at the slate to find some golfers who fit this build.
2023 US Open DFS: Best Plays in Each Price Range
2023 US Open DFS – $9,000+
Scottie Scheffler $11,400
What Scottie Scheffler is doing right now is otherworldly. He has gained over ten strokes tee to green in nine out of 11 starts. Those numbers are not only comparable but better than Tiger Woods ever heard of him. The putter has become a true comedy show in the Scheffler camp, and it has cost him wins in his last two starts. I am willing to play Scottie even though the putter is so poor.
When the winning score is -5 to -8, he can truly lose strokes putting and still win this golf tournament. Scottie lost over eight strokes putting last week and missed the playoff by one stroke. If he were only to lose five strokes putting, he would win that golf tournament. Truly immaculate stuff, which is hard to wrap your head around here. Play Scottie Scheffler. If he can hit 75% of his tee to the green baseline and putt to a zero, he wins this 2023 US Open.
Jordan Spieth $9,200
This setup is beautiful for Jordan Spieth. Jordan has become an above-average driver of the golf ball but still struggles a tad with accuracy. That suits his game perfectly, and from there, he will lean into that complete iron and around the green play. Look for Jordan to get in the mix and have a chance to win his second US Open.
2023 US Open DFS – Mid Range
Jason Day $8,100
I will give Jason Day a shot off a very weird stretch. Missed Cut, Win, Missed Cut, Missed Cut. In all of those missed cuts, the tee-to-green numbers are not horrible, and I believe he is capable of getting into the mix. Play Jason Day at a great price this week. He is top 30 in approach, around the green, and putting the recipe for success at LACC.
Sahith Theegala $7,600
I am wondering what the narrative around Pepperdine graduate Sahith Theegala will be this week. He runs into trouble on narrow tracks where you need to hit the driver very straight. On this golf course, he will be able to gear it up and go bombs away. Sahith’s creativity around the greens is second to none, which will lead to success here. Growing up in California, he should be comfortable around these surfaces. Throw Sahith Theegala into your lineups for the 2023 US Open.
2023 US Open DFS – $6K Range
Mackenzie Hughes $6,700
Hughes is coming off a few missed cuts, but I like how this golf course sets up for him. Like Spieth, he is above average in driving distance but below average in driving accuracy. Hughes is generally best with his long irons and is one of the best short-game players on the PGA Tour. He has two consecutive top 25s at US Opens, and I would believe that trend will continue here. Close out those lineups with Mackenzie Hughes at 6.7k.
