With this field being such a crapshoot below the top of the pricing, play both guys at the top. Just like we saw in Mexico, Finau and Rahm were the two top-priced golfers in the field. They ended up being two guys you needed to play. There is ample opportunity for success in the low 7K range and the 6K range as well to pair the top of the pricing with. A true stars and scrubs situation is presenting itself ahead of the 2023 AT&T Byron Nelson.

2023 AT&T Byron Nelson DFS: Best Plays in Each Price Range
2023 AT&T Byron Nelson DFS – $9,000+
Scottie Scheffler $11,900
Over the last 36 rounds, Scottie Scheffler is gaining a whopping 2.42 strokes gained tee to green per round. This is over a half-stroke better than anyone else. Jason Day follows up with 1.75 strokes gained per round—ball-striking domination from the world number two and Texas native Scottie Scheffler.
Jordan Spieth $10,600
Jordan Spieth, the wonder boy from Texas, has as much Texas experience and success as anyone in the history of the sport. Besides that, he is coming in playing solid golf. He had a tough showing at Quail Hollow. A golf course, he did not play much in his career.
Disregarding that showing, he has consecutive top-five finishes at Augusta and Harbour Town. His elite ball-striking since The WM Phoenix Open is amazing to see. His playing extremely well at “Jordan Courses” (Augusta and Harbour Town) makes this week’s expectations that much higher. Yes, TPC Craig Ranch is another Jordan Course. Don’t overthink it. You play Spieth in Texas.
2023 AT&T Byron Nelson DFS – Middle Tier
Austin Smotherman $7,100
Austin Smotherman has recently turned in his best PGA Tour finish with a tied for fifth at the Mexico Open. He returns to Dallas, where he played his college golf and also the spot where he got his initial PGA Tour start. He missed that cut which was in 2017 but returned last season and finished 25th. Smotherman is a better player at this point of his career than he was last year and will have great vibes around TPC Craig Ranch this week.
Austin Eckroat $7,000
Austin Eckroat has turned in two consecutive made cuts and heads to one of the easiest golf courses of the season. He is about tour average across the board, and this is a track that provides little resistance, and he should be geared up to perform at a track like this.
Being born and raised in the great state of Oklahoma and playing his college golf at Oklahoma State, he is surely used to this style of golf. Eckroat is playing better as the year goes on and has a top-five finish in a weaker Puntacana Championship field. At $7K, Eckroat is a solid entry for the stars and scrubs build.
2023AT&T Byron Nelson DFS – $6,000 Range
Ryan Armour $6,400
Ryan Armour making the cut at Quail Hollow is quite impressive. Looking at how he did it was also really interesting to see. Usually, when players of his caliber make a cut on an extremely difficult golf course, it is all done with the short game and putter. Armour actually lost almost four strokes around the green in this event (he lost a full stroke in rounds one and two).
If you told me Armour would be struggling with the short game and would have to rely on the ball striking on a long and firm golf course like Quail Hollow, I would have told you he is toast. But, instead, he gained 1.3 strokes of ball striking, which is excellent to see. TPC Craig Ranch will be a much easier test and should feel a lot easier to a guy like Armour. Hopefully, he can gain a little confidence playing decent at Quail Hollow and can parlay that into a solid finish at the 2023 Byron Nelson.
