The 2023-2024 college football season is just over three months away, and we’re starting to see some future bets come out. So let’s jump into some of my favorite college football future best bets that are available before the lines move around too much.
College Football Future Best Bets
Win Total Futures
Colorado Buffaloes over 3.5 Wins -128
Firstly, let’s take a look at Colorado’s schedule. It definitely is not going to be a cakewalk to four wins. However, there are opportunities that just need to be capitalized on. Nebraska, Colorado State, Arizona State, Stanford, and Arizona are all winnable games. Coach Deion Sanders and his team also host four out of those five games.
The crowd should be excited and pumped for this season as Colorado has brought in the aforementioned Hall of Famer Deion Sanders as their head coach, and he is also bringing a few of his guys onto the team.
Shedeur Sanders seems like he should be a very good replacement at quarterback. Obviously, we have only seen him play in the SWAC, but his stats speak for themselves. We cannot forget Travis Hunter and the lengthy list of 3+ star players who have gone west to play for the Buffaloes. There seem to be very strong arguments on both sides of this win total, but we’re starting with an over for our college football future best bets.
Ohio State over 10.5 Wins -115
Normally it would be scary to put faith in a team with a new starter at quarterback, but Ohio State is an exception. Ohio State never fails to have incredible players at quarterback and wide receiver. Marvin Harrison Jr. is coming off a near 1300-yard season and is looking to improve that number. This will be his last season before declaring for the draft, so that he will show out. In addition to Harrison, TreVeyeon Henderson is returning to the backfield for the Buckeyes.
Ohio State came in at ninth in the country in terms of yards per game, which is what we expect of the Big Ten monster. They were also ranked in the top fifteen in defense last year. If they are able to replicate these numbers, we may get an undefeated Ohio State vs. Michigan game to close out the season.
Tennessee Volunteers under 9.5 Wins -188
This is the easiest bet on the board. Joe Milton is the current starting quarterback for Tennessee. Despite him having decent stats to close out the season last year, we have a large sample size of Milton’s play to criticize. His 2020 year at Michigan was disappointing, to say the least. Unfortunately, Milton does not have a lot of room for error, as five-star Nico Lamaleava will be backing him up this season.
In addition to a potential quarterback struggle, Tennessee’s schedule has some tough matchups. The SEC is the toughest conference to play in, and with the loss of Hendon Hooker, I do not see Tennessee having a ten-win season.
Michigan Wolverines over 10.5 Wins +116
The Wolverines are here to stay. Jim Harbaugh is leading this team to a potential three-peat in the Big Ten and a third playoff appearance in the last three years. Michigan’s non-conference schedule is also very weak this year. They are going to be hosting ECU, UNLV, and Bowling Green. These games should be three easy warm-up games before facing off against conference opponents.
Also, Michigan is retaining a lot of the guys who were key factors in keeping them ahead of the rest of their conference. Keeping those types of guys around and having them learn and develop more is a big factor. No one in the Big Ten should be a threat to Michigan besides Ohio State, and even if Michigan were to drop that game, we would cash on an 11-1 season.
Conference Winner Futures
Clemson to win the ACC +190
The Tigers are shipping DJ Uiagalelei off to Oregon State and letting Cade Klubnik take the helm. Klubnik started Clemson’s last two games of the season, and he looked decent. He should be an upgrade from Uiagelelei. The Tigers also keep star running back Will Shipley in the backfield, who is coming off of a near 1200-yard season.
Teams such as NC State have gotten weaker as they lost their starting quarterback. While this is not the most talented Clemson roster we’ve ever seen, they are in a position to win the ACC again this year.
Michigan to win the Big 10 +210
Taking this future was an easy decision. Michigan has won two straight Big 10 titles and are placing themselves in a position to make it a third championship in a row.
Michigan is retaining a lot of skill position players as well. Most notably, McCarthy, Corum, and Johnson are back. This core has proven they can take over games and make it to the college football playoffs, and they will get there again.
Obviously, Ohio State will pose a threat as they always do, but Jim Harbaugh has overcome the Ohio State road bump. Harbaugh has won the last two matchups pretty easily, so there is no reason why he cannot do it again with his same core group of players.
Georgia to win the SEC +105
We heard it a lot at the end of last season, but Georgia has become the new standard in college football. Georgia has had one singular loss in the last two seasons, which was to Alabama in the SEC Championship game. However, Georgia got revenge by beating Alabama in the National Championship game just weeks later.
While we are unsure of who will be the starting quarterback for the Bulldogs, it may not be as big of a factor as it would be in other programs.
Georgia’s main factor in winning these games is how strong their defense is. Although Georgia lost a ton of guys to the NFL this year, that is something that this program is used to. They will fill the holes with guys that are just as good. Although this pick is very square, it is one of my favorite college football future best bets.
Heisman Trophy Winner
Caleb Williams +500
While this is the chalk and obvious pick, I think Caleb Williams will win the Heisman this year. William’s stats last year at USC are very impressive. He had over 4500 yards, 42 touchdowns, five interceptions, and a rating of 168.5. Williams won it last year, but a back-to-back winner is imminent.
Lincoln Riley being the head coach of USC is a huge plus for this bet as well. Riley has proven he can produce Heisman winners such as Williams, Baker Mayfield, and Kyler Murray winning over the last few years. Williams and Riley have proven they can hang in the Pac-12, and I expect them to show out again this year and make it to the playoffs.
Jordan Travis +1200
This may not be a familiar name to some of the FSU games that didn’t make it to your TV this past season. Including the Seminoles’ bowl game win, FSU ended the season 10-3. Travis had a very high year completing 64 percent of his passes, throwing 24 touchdowns, only five interceptions, and received a 160.1 rating. Florida State is also the current favorite to win the ACC, and shockingly, I agree.
Travis will have his three favorite receivers from last year, Wright Jr., Ontaria Wilson, and Jonnny Wilson. These three receivers combined for over 2000 yards. Coach Mike Norvell was definitely on the hot seat up until this past season. However, his team is playing for him, and they are playing very well. While this is not a long shot to win the Heisman, +1200 is a decent number to get for a guy as good as Travis is.
Blake Corum +3000
It is unanimous that Blake Corum was one of the best running backs in the country last year. He, unfortunately, got banged up towards the end of the season, but he really showed out. Corum ran for 1463 yards on 247 attempts and scored 18 touchdowns. He also managed to fumble the ball a total of zero times.
Wolverine fans will tell you without Corum; they may not have had such an impressive season. However, Corum will be a huge part of this offense this upcoming season, and if he stays healthy, those numbers from last year will improve.
Even though Corum is not involved in the passing game very much, this should not affect his chances of winning the Heisman. Michigan is a run-first offense, and it is run through Corum. Michigan is poised to have another fantastic year with this fantastic running back.
