Myles Murphy – NFL Rookie Draft Profile
Background
Height – 6’5″
Weight – 268 pounds
Myles Murphy has a supreme first step that can consistently beat linemen off the snap. He provides great cutback rush defense but doesn’t have great moves when pressuring the passer and will end up too deep in the pocket on many snaps.
2022: First-team All-ACC.
2021: Second-team All-ACC.
2021: Fourth-team All-American (Phil Steele)
2020: Freshman All-American (The Athletic, ESPN, Football Writers Association of America)
2020: ACC Co-Newcomer of the Year (Associated Press)
Defensive Line Pros
First Step Quickness– Explosive initial first step that will give him a leg up on offensive lineman.
Run Recognition – Really good at recognizing run-blocking concepts and having the discipline to protect against cutback runs.
Speed – Speed shows on tape that he can close, but not seeing him run at the combine or his pro-day could be suspect.
Defensive Line Cons
Disengage – Doesn’t do a great job of using his hands to disengage.
Outside – Because of his height, he isn’t great at dipping his hips and getting around tackles on the outside.
Sacks – As good of a pass rusher as Murphy is, his sack numbers are not as good as we would like to see with a player having this skillset.
