Quentin Johnston – NFL Rookie Draft and Dynasty Watch

Background

Quentin Johnston brings the prototypical size and speed to the WR position for the 2023 NFL Draft. He has a great blend, and the 4-star recruit put a good career together while attending TCU. He won a state championship in the high jump and brings that athleticism to the field.

Height – 6’3″

Weight – 215 pounds

College Career

Quentin Johnston showed three years of progression, seeing improvements in receptions, yardage, and touchdowns in each season. He had his best season to date while going to the NCAA College Football Championship game with 60 catches for 1,069 yards, 6 TD, and a 31.0% dominator rating.

WR Pros

Size & Speed Combo

Johnston is one of the few size and speed wide receivers in this class. That will likely push him up the board.

Tackle Breaking

His size and speed make it tough for guys to take him down on contact. He also had a pretty solid 19 forced missed tackles on only 60 catches.

Improvement

One thing that matters to me a ton is the ability to get better from year to year. We see that with Johnston in virtually all categories. He was the true alpha for the Horned Frogs.

WR Cons

Release

Even though he has size and speed, he isn’t great on the initial release. He needs to be coached on how to use his hands.

Stiffness

Quentin Johnston is definitely not your route-running specialist. He has very stiff hips and doesn’t sink going into his breaks.

Disappearing Act

Johnston had six games in 2022 with less than 50 yards and 0 touchdowns. We need to see more consistency in him at the next level.
