Anthony Richardson – NFL Rookie Draft and Dynasty Watch
Background
Anthony Richardson is what fantasy managers fight over. The upside that a rushing quarterback gives in most scoring formats provides an edge over the rest of the league.
Just think Jalen Hurts, Lamar Jackson, and Kyler Murray and the advantage they have provided in the past. Richardson, even in his breakout season, had modest numbers and put a lot of things to love and to hate on tape. So let us start with his career in college.
Height – 6’4″
Weight – 232 pounds
College Career
A 4-star recruit who committed to Florida in 2019, Richardson was the 9th-ranked dual-threat quarterback prospect. Richardson got the opportunity to play significant snaps in 2 games during the 2021 season.
In those games, Richardson had a 56.4% completion percentage, 249 yards, three passing touchdowns, and four interceptions. He did add 19 carries for 63 yards and a touchdown as well.
Emory Jones transferred to Arizona State for the 2022 season, leaving Richardson the reigns. Richardson went on to have a polarizing season where he showed us both his upside and his downside.
Cmp/Att | Yds | TD/INT | Rush Att | Yds | Rush TD | |
2020 | 1/2 | 27 | 1/1 | 7 | 61 | 0 |
2021 | 38/64 | 529 | 6/5 | 51 | 401 | 3 |
2022 | 176/327 | 2,549 | 17/9 | 103 | 654 | 9 |
QB Pros
Rushing Ability
Richardson produced over 1,000 rushing yards in his two seasons with significant playing time. He has shown us that he is the most explosive runner out of this year’s Quarterback class.
Arm Strength
Everyone is going to salivate over his arm. It is big, and he definitely has the arm strength to make any throw asked of him.
Elusive in the Pocket
Richardson is practically impossible to bring down in the pocket; he does navigate it well and can break tackles, as evidenced by his 39 forced missed tackles in 2022.

QB Cons
Holds onto the Ball
Just throw it already. He misses some throws because he is a little more focused on running than passing. He has a tendency to let the pressure get to him when he could avoid it.
Inaccurate
Richardson is not the most accurate thrower, whether in the pocket or on the move. He routinely misses throws. This has also contributed to some bad turnovers, as you can see, with four games with over 7% of his throws being turnover-worthy plays.
Anticipation
I do believe this could be developed over time. He is really green as a quarterback with very little experience as a starter at the college level. He will need to be coached to understand route concepts versus different coverage schemes.
Is there risked attached to Florida QB Anthony Richardson? Yes
But there is also an elite fantasy ceiling!
