The Fantasy Football Season is back and SGPN is your home for the BEST and most complete coverage, analysis, and advice for the 2022 NFL season. And what would the fantasy season be without the return of SGPN’s Draft Day best ball marathon?!?! Last year’s draft was a smashing success and was a great start to the fantasy season. For those not familiar with it, Ryan “Real Money” Kramer (@KramerCentric) spent 24 consecutive hours drafting best ball squads over on UnderDog Fantasy. It was so successful that we wanted to bring the best ball marathon back.

And this year we are bringing it back bigger and better than ever! The SGPN Degen Nation Community is a strong and supportive one. Sure, we all love to sweat bets, matchups, and get up to general shenanigans, but it runs deeper than that. This year’s Draft Day best ball marathon is also an attempt to raise money for a member of our community who was involved in a devastating motorcycle accident. Degens helping degens is what this year is all about and we are looking forward to raising money to help Darryl cover his medical expenses and bounce back from his accident.

Who is Darryl?
Darryl is a 31-year-old member of Degen Nation from Lebanon, Pennsylvania. He lives with his fiance Kelly and their dog Charlie. Darryl is an absolute Washington Capitals fanatic who lives and dies with his Caps every season. Additionally, he is a huge F1 fan and enjoys riding his motorcycle to get his gearhead fix. Oh, and how could we forget, that Darryl loves to gamble? He is a diehard member of Degen Nation and someone who is part of the SGPN family and community.
Those who know Darryl describe him as caring, genuine, honest, and sharp. He is someone who is there for his friends and a huge part of many people’s lives. He is widely loved and can always be seen with a smile on his face.
The Accident
On April 12, 2022 Darryl was traveling home from work on his motorcycle going around 55 MPH. An oncoming box truck suddenly turned in front of him and across his lane. Darryl tried to slow down enough to get around the back of the box truck but unfortunately didn’t make it past before he hit the back of the box truck and flew off his motorcycle. Upon impact, Darryl’s right leg was torn off below the knee. As he lay on the ground bleeding out, a Good Samaritan saw the accident and jumped into action. He took off his belt and put it around Darryl’s leg to try and stop as much of the bleeding as possible.
The paramedics got to the accident and rushed Darryl to the hospital. He was promptly taken into the trauma unit and prepped for emergency surgery. He had a broken left femur, broke his pelvis in three spots, a compound fracture of his right arm, destroyed his left hand and wrist, as well as countless other fractures in his body. The doctors had to amputate his right leg from just above the knee so that he would have a better chance to walk and live normally with a prosthetic.
On the first day of being at the hospital, Darryl needed 55 pints of blood put into his body because of all the blood he lost and would continue to lose those first 24 hours. Once stable, Darryl had endured numerous surgeries over the first 12 days. He went through more in the hospital than any human should have to go through. All of this happened four days before he was supposed to marry Kelly. Darryl spent several months in the hospital recovering enough to be able to head home. Now that he is home, he and Kelly are working at getting their lives back on track.

A loyal Degen Nation member and friend of Darryl, Andrew Raub, reached out to SGPN if there was anything that could be done. We decided to come together as a community to help Darryl afford his many medical expenses. As a community, we thought that turning our annual best ball marathon into a charitable fundraiser would be the right thing to do to support our community.
