As we find ourselves in a mid-summer haze of PGA Tour events that seem to blend into each other, we are at the Rocket Mortgage Classic this week. The Detroit Golf Club will be host to the 4th installment of the Rocket Mortgage Classic and we have some Golf DFS plays for you.
We have only seen this event on the rotation three times before and it has lent itself to long shot winners, elite drivers of the ball, and everything in between. Last week we certainly had a lackluster field that was not super easy to get up for. Luckily we have greatly improved the field and some big names are showing out.
Patrick Cantlay, Tony Finau, Will Zalatoris, Cameron Young, and Max Homa highlight the top of the board and provide value to the rest of the field.
Detroit Golf Club is a classical treelined golf course whose roots date back to the late 1800s. The course is a 7,370-yard par 72, featuring Bent/Poa mixed greens. This course has very few water hazards are trouble off the tee and has shown that ability to be scored on.
Let’s get into my favorite DFS Plays of the week.
Rocket Mortgage Classic Golf DFS $10,000+ Range
Cameron Young $10,100
The second that I saw Young in the field, I knew he would be my favorite play on the board. Off the heels of a solo runner-up finish at the Open Championship, Young has found something in his game after a small period of middling results.
When the last three winners of this event are Nate Lashley, Bryson, and Cam Davis, it is not hard to figure out that bombers of the ball have had success here. There is truly no better driver of the golf ball than Cam Young in this field. He ranks 1st in SG: OTT, 4th in Driving Distance, and 1st in birdies or better gained.
I seriously do not know what more you could want out of a golfer this week. Young has had an incredible year on tour with that maiden victory and I think it comes this week. Cam has 5 top 3 finishes on tour this season. Once you knock on the door that many times, you are due to a breakthrough.
He just showed that he can succeed in a low-scoring event that places an emphasis on wedge play. This is such an easy DFS Play this week.
Rocket Mortgage Classic Golf DFS $9,000 Range
Max Homa $9,900
I am going to play the next priced golfer on the DFS Slate in Max Homa this week. Once again I am looking for an elite driver of the ball that has winning upside, that is clearly Max Homa. A three-time winner on the PGA Tour since last March, Max has seriously improved his game.
Other than his MC at the Open Championship under extenuating circumstances. Other than that he has an extremely high floor. In his last 6 starts besides the missed cut, he has a win, a top 5, and no finish worse than 47th. I just believe that he is an extremely safe choice.
I also think by playing Homa and Young together I am getting unique on two highly owned golfers. Homa ranks 7th in SG: BS and 13th in SG: P. That is a combination that is due to come through this week in DFS.
Rocket Mortgage Classic Golf DFS $8,000 Range
Marc Hubbard $8,000
I am writing Hubbard up as my 8K DFS play because he is simply the cheapest in the range. Fitting in two guys at the top is going to be tough so I am going to take the salary relief with Hubbard.
Other than his cheap price, there is still a lot to like about Marc. He is off a 3rd place finish a the Barbasol where he gained 11 Strokes Ball striking and 5.2 Putting. I think that this is a deadly combo that will work well this week.
People are not used to playing him at this price and I think that should give some discount on ownership. He has gained strokes putting in 6 straight events and is a pretty consistent cut maker. This is a great DFS play this week.
Rocket Mortgage Classic Golf DFS $7,000 Range
Wyndham Clark $7,2000
We are just going to keep playing Wyndham Clark in DFS. I seriously have lost track of how many times I have written him up in this article but he has been good to us! Only one missed cut in his last 7 starts, the floor is pretty high.
I think something great could be coming and I don’t want to miss out. Clark has above-average driving distance and finished 17th in his only appearance at this event. This was helped by gaining 4.6 strokes putting and 3.2 OTT. Clark is clearly looking to get into the FedEx cup playoffs and this is another step towards this.
Rocket Mortgage Classic Golf DFS $6,000 Range
Lee Hodges $6,800
I am looking to Lee as my favorite 6K play this week. An amazing ball striker that just needs to find it with the flat stick. Off a t16 finish at the 3M open where he gained a staggering 9 strokes on Approach. I think this a spot to back Lee again.
What is promising about Lee is that his best-putting performance this season was at the Travelers which also features a bent poa mix. The way that he is hitting the ball, I think any semblance of putter will put him into contention this week.
Lee ranks 12th in SG: APP in this field and 29th in Ball striking There is really so much room for improvement with the flat stick that I really think he can find himself at the top of the leaderboard. Lee is easily my favorite 6K play and you should play him in your DFS Lineups.
