2022 Memorial Tournament DraftKings: Best DFS Plays in Each Price Range

2022 Memorial Tournament DraftKings: Best DFS Plays in Each Price Range

This week, the PGA Tour heads to Dublin, Ohio for The 2022 Memorial Tournament. This event on Jack Nicklaus’ signature golf course has become one of the premier tournaments on the PGA Tour Schedule. This is about as good of a field and golf course we are going to get for a non-major. This is an excellent week to play DFS on DraftKings.

This event is held a Muirfield Village Golf Club. The first Memorial Tournament was held in 1976. The golf course has crowned some of the game’s best as champions over the years. Tiger Woods, Greg Norman, Fred Couples, Vijay Singh, Jon Rahm, Bryson DeChambeau, and Patrick Cantlay are all past winners at Muirfield Village Golf Club.

As always, the field for the 2022 Memorial Tournament is stacked. Seven out of the Top 10 golfers in the world will tee it up. Jon Rahm is looking for redemption. Patrick Cantlay is looking to repeat. And Rory McIlroy is looking for his first win this calendar year. With the U.S. Open just two weeks away, the Memorial is a great chance to assert oneself as the favorite at Brookline.

As for the golf course, we are certainly in for a difficult test this week. Muirfield Village underwent a recent renovation that lengthened it to 7,543 yards. But what didn’t change was the thick Bluegrass rough and the small, quick undulating Bentgrass greens that cause players fits every single year. This event has proven to be a difficult test for these PGA Tour pros. Expect a winning score in the low to mid-teens under par.

With that said, let’s get into my favorite DFS plays for the 2022 Memorial Tournament.

2022 Memorial Tournament DFS – $10,000+ Range

Xander Schauffele $10,200

Muirfield Village has been the site of several breakthrough victories. And Xander is one that certainly needs it. This San Diego native has not had the most impressive victories on the PGA Tour. However, this week would be the perfect opportunity to change that.

He’s in excellent form. Playing his own ball, he has finishes of T5, and T13 in his last two starts. He also teamed up with Patrick Cantlay to win the 2022 Zurich Classic. And in doing so, he’s hit the ball great. Xander gained 7.9 strokes from tee-to-green at the PGA Championship and 9.8 strokes tee-to-green at the AT&T Bryon Nelson. In addition, Xander ranks 3rd in Bogey Avoidance, 11th in Strokes Gained – Approach and 6th Tee-To-Green in the 2022 Memorial field.

Xander also excels on long, difficult Bentgrass golf courses. It’s no surprise he’s been solid at Muirfield Village. Heading into the tournament, Xander has three consecutive Top 20 finishes at the Memorial. He also added a T14 finish at the Workday Charity Open at Muirfield Village in 2020. That’s what makes Xander Schauffele the best $10,000+ DFS play at the 2022 Memorial Tournament

2022 Memorial Tournament DFS – $9,000 Range

Will Zalatoris $9,400

No, I do not have a Will Zalatoris problem. I just can’t quit the guy. I have extreme FOMO that I’ll miss out on his first win. So of course I’m playing him in DFS this week at the 2022 Memorial Tournament.

This week should be a perfect opportunity for his first win on the PGA Tour. He is coming off a heartbreaking playoff loss to Justin Thomas just two weeks ago at the PGA Championship. In the tournament, Zalatoris was truly phenomenal in all aspects of the game.

Even his putting, forever his kryptonite, was stellar. On similar Bentgrass greens, Zalatoris gained 4.7 strokes on the greens at the PGA Championship. Whenever he can match up good putting with his typical stellar ball striking (which ranks 2nd in the field this week), a great finish is on the horizon.

I don’t care about the missed cut at Colonial last week. It was an obvious letdown spot for him. And I kind of dig him coming off a missed cut. Before the PGA Championship, Zalatoris commented about how he took the missed cut at the AT&T Byron Nelson to heart. That caused him to play with a chip on his shoulder at Southern Hills. And considering this is yet another difficult golf course he’ll play this week, I love using Zalatoris in all my DFS lineups at the 2022 Memorial Tournament.

2022 Memorial Tournament DFS – $8,000 Range

Seamus Power $8,000

Seamus Power is another golfer that shined at the PGA Championship. The Irishman gained strokes in every single category at the second major of the year. At the 2022 PGA Championship, Power gained 1.6 strokes off-the-tee, 3.5 strokes on approach, 3.7 strokes around-the-green, and 1.5 strokes putting. That’s why he secured his first Top 10 in a major that week.

Another thing I like about Seamus is that when he gets hot, he stays hot. From May 2021 through February 2022, Seamus Power posted fourteen Top 20 finishes in 18 starts. He currently is on a two Top 20 finish streak. I expect him to keep it rolling with another solid finish. He’s a great DFS play at the 2022 Memorial Tournament.

2022 Memorial Tournament DFS – $7,000 Range

Matt Kuchar $7,800

I really like the Kuchar Resurgence. He has made the cut in his last 6 starts on the PGA Tour. That includes two Top 5 finishes. Muirfield Village has also been kind to Matt in the past. He has a victory, two Top 5’s and only one missed cut in fourteen career starts.

He’s also a stat darling this week. Kuchar ranks 4th in bogey avoidance over the past 24 rounds. He also has a stellar short game. Kuchar ranks 1st in this stat over the past 24 rounds. The elite combination of a killer short game and avoiding bogeys should bode well for Kuchar on this tough track. He’s an excellent DFS play at the 2022 Memorial Tournament.

2022 Memorial Tournament DFS – $6,000 Range

Danny Willett $6,200

The 2016 Masters Champion can certainly find his way through to the weekend at Jack’s place. And at his price point of $6,200, he does not need much to pay off his price tag.

Danny Willett has also shown some form recently. He finished 12th at The Masters a little over a month ago. He also finished T16 at the British Masters too. And he is a fantastic scrambler. Willett ranks 2nd in this stacked field in Strokes Gained- Around-the-Green over the past 50 rounds. The ability to get up at down is extremely important this week. Historically, Muirfield Village ranks 5th out of 40 courses in difficulty around the green. No wonder Willett has been so good at the golf course.

As mentioned earlier, his low price point leaves a ton of room in the budget to go grab another stud in the lineup. Make sure the last man on your DFS lineups for the 2022 Memorial Tournament is Danny Willett.

Optimal Lineup:

  1. Xander Schauffele – $10,200
  2. Will Zalatoris – $9,400
  3. Joaquin Niemann – $8,300
  4. Seamus Power – $8,000
  5. Matt Kuchar – $7,800
  6. Danny Willett – $6,200
