We get ready for a weekend of championship fights from Scotland to Las Vegas and back to London on this edition of the “Big Fight Weekend” podcast.
Host T.J. Rives returns to go over the news of the week, including how the Russian invasion of Ukraine could be affecting the proposed Unified Heavyweight title rematch between Oleksandr Usyk and Anthony Joshua?
And, TJ welcome to board David Payne aka “the boxing writer” of his site boxingwriter.co.uk over in England to give his insight on that situation and also help preview the fights.
That includes, the Saturday night Undisputed Junior Welterweight Title defense of four belt Champion Josh Taylor of Scotland. Taylor “The Tartan Tornado” has returned to his home country after defeating Jose Ramirez last May (photo top) to become Undisputed champ. And, he will fight in Glasgow against England’s Jack Catterall in a scheduled 12-round main event to be shown Primetime in the U.K. and Saturday afternoon in the United States.
Will Taylor look impressive and garner an even bigger fight later in 2022 and perhaps with World Welterweight Champion Terence Crawford? TJ and David explore.
TJ also previews the Showtime boxing Las Vegas Card Saturday night that features unbeaten in New York contender Chris Colbert in a WBA Jr. Lightweight Eliminator fight in the main event and has a couple of other intriguing undercard bouts, on the Vegas strip, too.
And, there’s also a Sunday night London title fight card that features Britain’s Lawrence Okolie defending the WBO Cruiserweight World Championship in a scheduled 12-rounder for Matchroom Boxing.
We go over the odds and make some fight picks on the cards for the weekend!
