Olympic Men’s Hockey Gold Medal Game – ROC vs. Finland: Picks

Finland -120

The Finns have yet to lose in these Olympic Games and I see them finishing out their undefeated run with a gold medal around their necks.

Finland has tightened up defensively recently and has been one of the best defensive teams in the Olympics. They’ve allowed just seven goals in five games, including one goal in the last two games. In fact, three of the seven goals they allowed were to one team (Sweden). In their other four games, they’ve outscored the opposition 16-4, including a 2-0 win against Bronze Medal winner Slovakia in the semifinals.

It’s not going to be easy, though. ROC is a tough squad that also plays defensively. The Russians have allowed one goal or fewer in four of their five games, including a 2-1 shootout win against Sweden last game. Their lone loss was 6-5 in overtime to the Czech Republic.

Olympic Men’s Hockey Gold Medal Game – ROC vs. Finland: Predictions

Finland -1.5 (+260)

I like Finland to get the job done and I don’t mind the +260 odds on the puck line. They were able to get an empty-netter against Slovakia last game and ROC may be even more desperate if trailing late in the game.

Olympic Men’s Hockey Gold Medal Game – ROC vs. Finland: Best Bets

Under 4.5 (-120)

My best bet for this game, however, is the Under 4.5 (-120). This is going to be a low-scoring game; no question about it. Besides the 11-goal outlier for ROC, there were 1, 2, 4, and 3 goals in their other four games. For Finland, while they were able to score some goals against inferior opponents, they allowed 2, 1, 3, 1, 0 in their five games.

I love the Under 4.5 and for a #DegensOnly play let’s go with a 0-0 correct score in regulation at +2200. A 22-to-1 shot that these two defense-first teams don’t give an inch in regulation? Yeah, I’ll take that.

Alternatively, both team totals under 1.5 pay pretty nicely. Finland Under 1.5 (+170) or Under 1.5 regulation (+145) are good looks, as are ROC Under 1.5 (+155) and Under 1.5 regulation (+125).
