2022 Olympic Men’s Short Track Speed Skating 500m: How To Watch, Betting Preview, And Picks

What’s up degens – we’re back with more Short Track Speed Skating. If you don’t remember the last article, we hit on a +800 dog! Today I return with a few plays on the single most exciting Winter Olympic event, in my opinion – the Men’s Short Track Speed Skating 500m discipline.

If you don’t know of me, I grew up in Michigan as a hockey player. I admired athletes like Apolo Anton Ohno that competed in Speed Skating/Short Track Speed Skating events growing up. The two are still some of my favorite Winter Olympic Sports to watch and betting on the action makes it even more fun. There are great chances for large underdogs to hit due to wipeouts and disqualifications. In this article, I will give an overview of the best bets for the Men’s Short Track Speed Skating 500m event.

2022 Olympic Men’s Short Track Speed Skating 500m Betting Preview

Hungarian Shaolin Sandor Liu is the betting favorite (+200) for the Men’s 500-meter Short Track event. One of the biggest stories coming out of the 2022 Beijing Winter Olympic Games so far has been the rivalry developed in Speed Skating on the Short Track between South Korea and China. Two actions that happened during the Men’s 1000-meter Short Track event have been under the spotlight over the last few days. One was South Korea’s Hwang Dae-Heon’s late pass in a heat that “caused contact.” The other was China’s Ren Ziwei’s controversial final stretch against Liu to win the 1000m final.

THE BET: Shaolin Sandor Liu To Win +200

I know underdogs hitting in this sport, and hell breaking loose in this event is bound to happen, but I believe in the Hungarian. Liu Shaolin Sandor has had a few heartbreaking moments so far in Beijing. In the Mixed Team event final, the Hungarian team was unfortunately involved in a wipeout. They finished with Bronze. Then, in the 1000m race, Liu Shaolin Sandor was in the photo finish with Chinese skater Ziwei. In his last race, the 1500m Liu won the “B Final.” The Hungarian has been on his “A” game so far and has sniffed gold in three straight events. The 500m is the 26-year-old’s best discipline. The International Skating Union (ISU) has Liu ranked #1 in the World in the 500m event. This is the event he gets his first gold medal in Beijing.

ENTERTAIN: Winner Represents China +333

When placing this bet you get tremendous value in two ways. First, you have three skaters in the 20 man field. Two of the three Chinese skaters rank in the top three of the ISU World Rankings in the 500m event. Secondly, the judges have been shady in most of their rulings favoring Chinese skaters – this is 100% an assumption, but definitely an angle. The two men to keep your eye on are Wu Dajing (+225 to win) and Ziwei Ren (+900 to win).

SPRINKLE: Ziwei Ren To Win +900

Another bet with tremendous value is Ziwei Ren to win the 500m race at +900. Ren is currently ranked third in the World via ISU. Ren already has a gold medal in the 2022 games, he could string together the momentum and steal another one here too.
