Another jammed packed edition of the only Boxing podcast you need to get you ready for the fight weekend is here. And, host T.J. Rives and his guests are ready to get you up to speed on a great documentary that is out this weekend and preview the World Welterweight Title fight in Texas between unbeaten, Errol Spence and top challenger Danny Garcia.
First, T.J. talks with Emmy Award winning filmmaker Eric Drath to discuss his new documentary film on the incredible flamboyant boxing career of former multi-division World Champ, Hector “Macho” Camacho. They discuss Camacho’s meteoric rise from the ghetto of Spanish Harlem in New York City to becoming arguably the most watched love/hate championship fighter of the 1980s. Camacho’s wild and crazy career was always headed for a wild ending.
However, no one was prepared for him to be murdered in Puerto Rico at just age 50, eight years ago. Camacho’s killing remains unsolved to this day and it’s the key part of the documentary’s end with a quest for justice for his mother and family.
Next up, T.J. welcomes Marquis Johns, Sr. Writer for BigFightWeekend.com along with their guest, Ryan O’Hara, contributor of RingTV.com. T.J., Marquis, and Ryan talk some about the career and impact of Camacho, in advance of the documentary airing.
And then, they turn their attention to the Spence-Garcia showdown in Texas Saturday night. Can Spence look like the fighter that he was prior to his horrible car crash in October of 2019? Will Garcia take advantage of Spence’s long time off and possible apprehension after the car wreck? The guys assess and make their predictions.
Finally, T.J. and Marquis conclude with the rundown of the Spence-Garcia undercard fights, as well as the Matchroom Boxing Friday afternoon U.S. Time World Super Middleweight main event featuring unbeaten WBO champ, Billy Joe Saunders of England fighting little known Martin Murray.
