It’s our latest version of the show, as host T.J. Rives and guests get set to preview Saturday night’s WBO World Welterweight title defense on ESPN of Terence Crawford against England’s Kell Brook. Crawford, 36-0, 27 KOs is set to defend his title for the fourth time against the former IBF 147 lb. champ, Brook.
First in our preview, it’s a “roundtable” discussion with T.J., Marquis Johns of BigFightWeekend.com and Abraham Gonzalez of NYFights.com. The guys discuss how enthused (or not) they are about this title defense by Crawford and where he deserves to be ranked on the best “pound for pound” fighter list? This is a hot debate currently, as fighters like Canelo Alvarez, Naoya Inoue and Teofimo Lopez seem to get most of the consideration.
Abraham also gives his thoughts on whether Crawford may be moving on from Top Rank Boxing promotion to get a better 147 lb. fight with Premier Boxing Champions? Certainly, Crawford has been frustrated by not getting a mega-PPV type showdown with fellow Welterweight stars Errol Spence or Hall of Famer to be, Manny Pacquiao.
Crawford is the decided favorite currently at MyBookie.ag at -1600, while Brook, who is 39-2 as a pro, clocks in as a +800 Underdog on Friday. Also, the Under/Over on rounds is 6 1/2 with Crawford having won by stoppage or KO in each of his last 7 fights dating back to 2016.
Then, Marquis stays aboard to give his opinions on the rest of Saturday night Crawford-Brook card and fighters to watch in the Las Veagas “bubble.” This includes the Joshua Franco-Andrew Moloney WBA Jr. Bantamweight 12 round showdown.
Johns also will have his eyes on the female title fights Saturday in London from Matchroom Boxing featuring Undisputed Lightweight Women’s World Champ, Katie Taylor in action in the main event.
