NFL Week 4 Preview: Odds and Betting Trends

After taking care of business against the Baltimore Ravens on Monday Night Football, Patrick Mahomes and the Kansas City Chiefs will be back in action on Sunday afternoon as touchdown betting favorites at home against the New England Patriots.

The Chiefs are listed as 7-point favorites on the NFL odds at sportsbooks monitored by OddsShark.com for their game against the Patriots late on Sunday afternoon, with the total for the contest set at 54 points. Kansas City topped Baltimore 34-20 as 3.5-point underdogs on the road on Monday night, to improve to 3-0 straight up and 2-1 against the spread.

Mahomes had no trouble with the Ravens defense in the primetime matchup, completing 31 of 42 pass attempts for 385 yards with four touchdown strikes and no interceptions. Mahomes also rushed for a score, while the Chiefs defense held Lamar Jackson to 97 passing yards.

The Patriots are 2-1 both SU and ATS on the season after knocking off the Las Vegas Raiders 36-20 last week as 7-point betting favorites. New England quarterback Cam Newton completed 17 of 28 pass attempts for 162 yards on the day with one touchdown and one interception in the victory, while Rex Burkhead scored three touchdowns in the contest.

The Chiefs are just 1-2 SU and 2-1 ATS in their last three games against the Patriots, according to the OddsShark NFL Database, but New England had Tom Brady for those contests. The OVER has paid off in five of the last six games between the two AFC teams.

Two other games are on the schedule for late afternoon on Sunday, with the Giants at the Rams (-13) and Buffalo (-3) at Las Vegas. That leads into the Sunday Night Football matchup between Philadelphia and San Francisco, with the Niners listed as 7-point home favorites at sports betting sites. The Eagles had to settle for a 23-23 tie against the Bengals last week, slightly improving them to 0-2-1 SU and 0-3 ATS on the season.

The other primetime matchups on the Week 4 slate has the Broncos set as 2.5-point road favorites at the Jets on Thursday night, and the Packers listed as 7.5-point home favorites against the Falcons on Monday night. Green Bay is off to a 3-0 SU and ATS start to the season, getting past the Saints 37-30 as 3-point road underdogs in their Week 3 matchup.

Early Sunday games are then Indianapolis (-3) at Chicago, Cleveland at Dallas (-4.5), Minnesota at Houston (-4), New Orleans (-4) at Detroit, Arizona (-4) at Carolina, Baltimore (-13) at Washington, the Chargers at Tampa Bay (-7.5), Seattle (-7) at Miami, Jacksonville at Cincinnati (-3), and Pittsburgh (-1.5) at Tennessee. The Steelers vs. Titans matchup, however, could be in jeopardy after several members of the Titans tested posted for COVID-19.
