When and where the start of the Major League Baseball season happens is still uncertain, but what is not uncertain are the top two contenders to win the 2020 World Series – at least according to the latest baseball betting futures at sportsbooks monitored by OddsShark.com.
The Los Angeles Dodgers and the New York Yankees continue to lead the way as the top chalk on the 2020 World Series odds at the sportsbooks, with Los Angeles the slight +325 favorite and New York right behind them on that futures list at odds of +350.
The Dodgers were upset in the NLDS by the Washington Nationals last season, and the Yankees fell in the ALCS to the Houston Astros. However, both big-market clubs made a splash in the offseason with pricey acquisitions, as the Yankees signed ace pitcher Gerrit Cole away from the Astros as a free agent and the Dodgers acquired outfielder Mookie Betts and pitcher David Price in a trade with the Boston Red Sox.
And that has the Dodgers and Yankees in a class by themselves atop the futures at sports betting sites, with the Astros the next closest team to them on the list at +800 to win the World Series this year. Houston lost in seven games to the Nationals in last season’s World Series, but the subsequent sign-stealing scandal has dominated the team’s narrative since then.
The rest of the league is then higher than 10/1 on the latest 2020 World Series odds, with the Atlanta Braves fourth at +1400, followed by the Minnesota Twins at +1600, and the defending-champion Nationals at +1800. Washington will have to get along without star third baseman Anthony Rendon this season, after he signed as a free agent with the Angels.
The St. Louis Cardinals (+2000), New York Mets (+2200), Oakland Athletics (+2200), and Tampa Bay Rays (+2200) round out the top third on the World Series futures board, just ahead of the +2400 Philadelphia Phillies, with each of the Chicago Cubs, Chicago White Sox, Cincinnati Reds, and Los Angeles Angels set at +2500 on those MLB odds.
As for the longshots, the Baltimore Orioles, Detroit Tigers, and Miami Marlins are all listed at +50000 to win the World Series this year, as Major League Baseball looks to salvage as much of a season as it can when the sport is allowed to resume. The Kansas City Royals are at a lucrative +40000, with the Seattle Mariners at +30000, and the Pittsburgh Pirates at +25000.
