NFL DraftKings Showdown Saturday Picks: Minnesota Vikings at San Francisco 49ers

The first divisional game of the weekend is a truly intriguing match up. Veteran signal-caller Kirk Cousins will assume the familiar role of underdog (+7) against the two time Super Bowl champion (and first time playoff starter) football enigma Jimmy Garoppolo. As mentioned on last week’s podcast, 1st time playoff starters in recent history are 8-20, however expect Jimmy to buck that trend with or without the help of the 49ers invaluable emotional support dog.

After one of the best WildCard weekends of the century, it brings me no pleasure to declare the upcoming slate of games with the disappointing moniker of… Hangover Saturday. Both homes teams will ramble-on thanks to strong running attacks.

With said blowouts in mind let us craft our DraftKings lineup on run-heavy favorites and garbage time underdogs.

4:35 PM ET
Minnesota Vikings (11-6, 5-4 Away) @
San Francisco 49ers (13-3, 6-2 Home) SF -7, O/U 44.5

Deebo Samuel ($8,600 / $12,900 Capt.)

The rookie hailing from South Carolina has scored 4 out of his 6 total touchdowns in the last 6 games. San Francisco has made a conscious effort to get him the ball, as shown by his average 2 rush attempts per game over the last 5 contests. Despite the skater boi persona of the current SF head coach, Kyle Shanahan is a Minneapolis native with an axe to grind who has been gifted an extra week to script plays for his most explosive athlete. Samuel’s last two weeks has him scoring 2 rushing touchdowns, putting the league on notice.

George Kittle ($9,800 / $14,700 Capt.)

Steady as they come for Kittle this season, although fantasy owners would have preferred more TDs than his 5. No complaints can distract from George’s 79% catch rate being #4 for tight ends behind only Jonnu Smith, Kyle Rudolph & Ryan Griffin (2 of whom are in the playoffs). The 49ers have had a dominant defense this season and they have been afforded the luxury of experimenting with their offense. Kittle is the go-to-guy under the bright lights.

Raheem Mostert ($8,400 / $12,600 Capt.)

This is the week that Raheem Mostert becomes a household name. This late bloomer reminds me of Christian Okoye. He is finally embracing the running back position and the raw talent is the best kept secret in the game. The stats don’t lie: 5.6 yards/rush and the carries keep coming.

Kirk Cousins ($9,600 / $14,400 Capt.)

Cousins is possibly the most underrated 2019 QB. He finished 4th in QB rating at 107.4. He is a perfectly capable garbage time QB in this game and that is not a back-handed compliment whatsoever.. Theilen. Diggs. Rudolph. Security blanket RB and healthy RB1-security-blanket Davlin Cook. Count on a 300 yard, 2 TD game.

Kyle Rudolph ($5,600 / $8,400 Capt.)

Kyle has 7 TDs this season. In the 2nd half of the season Cousins has been targeting him more in the red zone and in general. His catch percentage is the highest of his career at 81%.

Minnesota has scored less than 20 points only a few times this season, both to the Bears and Packers. For this lineup to score big, we must hope that the over 44.5 points hits. A heavy running attack from SF and a garbage touchdown to Rudolph late will win this Showdown.
