Week Three College Football Importance Guide (Ranking All 65 Games)

  1. Delaware State @ Western Michigan (Sat)

Delaware State is one of the worst schools in all the FCS. They’ve already gotten blown out by fellow MAC team Buffalo. Western Michigan is coming off a blowout loss at Michigan. They could use a nice sized win.

  1. UTEP @ Tennessee

UTEP is the worst team in all the FBS. Northern Arizona of the FCS went into El Paso a few weeks back and blew out the Miners. This game will be over early.

  1. San Jose State @ Oregon

San Jose State is possibly the 2nd worst FBS team. They lost a shootout week 1 game against UC Davis and then got shutout in Pullman against Washington State. Oregon has been playing absolutely no one this year and it continues again this week.

  1. Murray State @ Kentucky

Kentucky is coming off their biggest win ever maybe winning at Florida. Murray State is 0-2 and terrible. Why is this game being played.

  1. Bethune Cookman @ Florida Atlantic

Florida Atlantic and Air Force were going back and forth but The Owls found a way to get the win. Bethune Cookman is 1-1 with their lone win coming against a division 2 school. This is going to be blowout city.

  1. Tennessee Tech @ Utah State (Thurs)

Tennessee Tech is 0-2 and they’ve lost those games by a combined 104-10 score. Utah State is coming off a nice blowout win over New Mexico State. This game shouldn’t be close.

  1. Idaho State @ California (Sat)

Idaho State is 1-0 with a blowout win over Western State. They also won at Nevada last year. Cal is 2-0 with both wins coming over power 5 programs. Cal rolls big.

  1. UC Davis @ Stanford (Sat)

UC Davis has already beat an FBS team this year in San Jose State. Bryce Love is out but Stanford looks pretty good this year. Maybe Davis keeps it close in the 1st half but at the end of the day, it’s going to be a blowout.

  1. Alabama A&M @ Cincinnati (Sat)

Alabama A&M is 1-1 with a win over division 2 school. Cincinnati is 2-0 and playing its first true home game. Bearcats continue to ride the momentum and go 3-0.

  1. New Hampshire @ Colorado (Sat)

New Hampshire is normally a very good FCS school They were preseason top 10 to enter the season but have gotten upset both weeks this year. Things don’t seem to be getting easier. Colorado seems to be rolling offensively.

  1. Louisiana Lafayette @ Mississippi State (Sat)

Louisiana Lafayette is 1-0 on the year with their lone win coming against FCS Grambling. Mississippi State is 2-0 and coming off a nice win at Kansas State.

  1. Louisiana Monroe @ Texas A&M

Louisiana Monroe is 2-0 winning both games by a total of 4 points. Last week they upset Southern Miss on the road by 1. Texas A&M is 1-1 and played decently well against Clemson despite losing. Blowout city here.

  1. Southern Utah @ Arizona

Southern Utah is 0-2 and are pretty terrible. Arizona is 0-2 and looked pretty bad in their own right. Look for Sumlin to get his first win here.

  1. Prairie View @ UNLV

Prairie View is 1-2 with their lone win being against North Carolina Central. UNLV is 1-1 with the lone loss being a solid performance against USC on the road. I like the Rebels to win big and move to 2-1.

  1. Lehigh @ Navy

Lehigh is 1-1 on the year but they’ve won the Patriot League the past 2 years. Navy is 1-1 after losing Week 1 at Hawaii they came back to Annapolis and upset the Memphis Tigers. Give me Navy to win this one.

  1. Texas State @ South Alabama

Texas State is coming off a much-needed win against FCS Texas Southern. South Alabama is winless having lost at home in the opener against Louisiana Tech and getting blown out by Oklahoma State in Stillwater. Give me South Alabama to find a way to grab their first win.

  1. Rhode Island @ UCONN

Uconn is a 10 point favorite in this game but UCONN has looked awful thus far this season. Then again several teams would too if they started off with Central Florida and Boise State. Rhode Island is 2-0 on the FCS level so I’m thinking this one is a close one.

  1. Middle Tennessee @ Georgia

Middle Tennessee got their first win of the season over FCS Tennessee Martin which they’ll need since they play a few SEC teams on the road this year. Georgia rolled South Carolina on the road. No way this is a close game.

  1. Georgia Southern @ Clemson

Georgia Southern won a close one against Umass to move to 2-0 on the season. Clemson beat Texas A&M in College Station to move to 2-0. Georgia Southern and the option offense stand no chance against Clemson’s defensive line.

  1. Kent State @ Penn State

Kent State played Illinois tough in week 1 before losing the game. Last week Kent State beat Howard by a decent amount. Penn State recovered from the Appalachian State overtime win by blowing out rival Pittsburgh on the road.

  1. SMU @ Michigan

SMU seems to be in rebuilding mode with suffering 2 blowout losses to North Texas and TCU. Michigan seems to have gotten back on track with a dominating home win over Western Michigan. Michigan wins big again.

  1. Colorado State @ Florida

Did Florida really finally lose a game against Kentucky? I was not expecting that especially from a game in the swamp. Colorado State also surprised me by beating Arkansas in Fort Collins. Can they make it two SEC teams in a row?

  1. Western Kentucky @ Louisville

Western Kentucky is 0-2 after losing to Wisconsin and Maine from the FCS level and now comes the an in state opportunity. Louisville got destroyed by Alabama week 1 and took quite a while to wake up against Indiana State who was winless on the FBS level last year.

  1. Georgia State @ Memphis

Georgia State is coming off a bad road loss to NC State and is 1-1 on the year. Memphis lost a close one in Annapolis to Navy and is also 1-1. I don’t think Georgia State has the offense to keep up with Memphis.

  1. UTSA @ Kansas State

UTSA is 0-2 after losing to Arizona State and Baylor and here comes a 3rd power 5 school. Kansas State has really struggled on the offensive side of the ball. I think the Wildcats figure some things out this week and move forward to Big 12 Conference play.

  1. New Mexico @ New Mexico State

New Mexico State has had a tough year and I called it. The Aggies are 0-3 and well the offense has been the real weakness. New Mexico is 1-1 and looking better than I anticipated. Can the Aggies turn their season around with a home win against their in-state rivals?

  1. Eastern Kentucky @ Bowling Green

Eastern Kentucky played Marshall at Marshall better than I expected last week. Bowling Green is 0-2 after losses at Oregon and home to Maryland. This should be a close one.

  1. Temple @ Maryland

Temple really needs a solid performance here. Many had the Owls improving on last years bowl record but the Owls dropped their first 2 games of the season with home losses to Villanova and Buffalo. Maryland is 2-0 and all of sudden looking like a bowl team and a tough out for the rest of the Big Ten.

  1. Northern Iowa @ Iowa

Northern Iowa is 0-1 but it was a 3 point loss to Montana who’s been a good FCS school for 20 years. Iowa has been dominating in both their 2 wins against Northern Illinois and Iowa State. Give me Iowa to open it up in the 2nd half.

  1. Miami (OH) @ Minnesota

Minnesota came up with an amazing interception in the end zone to save themselves from playing Fresno State in overtime. Miami who I was high on in the preseason has really struggled this season losing both their matchups in which they were the favored team.

  1. Wofford @ Wyoming

Wyoming needs this one after starting out 1-0 they’ve dropped two in a row. Wofford is 2-0 and is a pretty darn good FCS team so it’ll be interesting to see how this one shakes out. If Wyoming can get better play from the Quarterback position they should have enough to get back to .500.

  1. Old Dominion @ Charlotte (Thurs)

This game has been moved up because of the hurricane. Old Dominion is 0-2 after getting destroyed by Liberty and losing a close one to Florida International. Charlotte is 1-1 after being FCS Fordham week one the 49ers got destroyed by Appalachian State in Charlotte. I like ODU to grab their 1st win here.

  1. Umass @ Florida International

Umass is 1-2 after losing at Georgia Southern. The Minutemen started the season great in week zero beating FCS Duquesne but have dropped two since. Florida International is 1-1 after playing Indiana tough and beating Old Dominion.

  1. Tulane @ UAB

Tulane looked good beating FCS Nicholls who happened to beat Kansas in Lawrence in week 1. The Green Wave are 1-1 with the one loss being in overtime to Wake Forest. UAB blew out a FCS in Savannah State in week 1 and then went to Conway, South Carolina where Coastal Carolina pulled the upset on the Blazers.

  1. Arkansas State @ Tulsa

Arkansas State is coming off a 50 point loss but it was to Alabama. Tulsa is coming off a 7 point road loss at Texas. I like Tulsa to rebound from their 2 win total last year but this should be a good one. Arkansas State was one the favorites to win the Sun Belt coming into the season.

  1. Oregon State @ Nevada

Nevada was in it for a little bit last week against Vanderbilt but then the wheels came off. Oregon State is playing a little bit better than I expected them to be at this point. The defense needs to continue to improve but this should be a good game regardless.

  1. Central Michigan @ Northern Illinois

Central Michigan needs to focus on this one if they want to make a legit run back to another bowl. Sure, they’re only 0-2 but they just haven’t been playing as good as a normal CMU team would. Northern Illinois is 0-2 as well but it was to Iowa and Utah. This is a big game for both teams.

  1. Akron @ Northwestern

Akron is 1-0 since their season opener against Nebraska was canceled. They did beat FCS Morgan State by a lot but that’s not really saying anything. Northwestern looked great against Purdue but Purdue still hasn’t won a game and Northwestern laid an egg last week at home against Duke.

  1. North Texas @ Arkansas

Mason Fine of North Texas is one of the best QB’s you’ve probably never heard about but his Green Machine team is lighting up the scoreboards thus far. Arkansas is coming off a loss to Colorado State. Could they drop 2 in a row to a group of 5 teams?

  1. Fresno State @ UCLA

Fresno State played Minnesota tough and the Gophers made a miracle play or that game was headed to overtime. UCLA well they’re winless but they looked better in week 2 and the covered the spread against Oklahoma. This is a big one for Chip because I’m not sure how many other games they’ll be favored in this year.

  1. Ball State @ Indiana

Ball State played Notre Dame great in their first trip to South Bend only losing by 8. Now it’s time for another Indiana school as they travel to Bloomington. Indiana has been pretty darn impressive thus far this year with a nice win on the road against Florida International and a nice home win against Virginia in a monsoon.

  1. Eastern Michigan @ Buffalo

Both of these teams are 2-0 and both are coming off nice upsets against conferences ranked higher than the MAC. Eastern Michigan for the 2nd straight year beat a Big 10 team in their house. Buffalo took down the AAC’s Temple in their backyard too. Both these teams are going to be players in the MAC this year which makes this game huge!

  1. South Florida @ Illinois (Chicago)

Lovie Smith is 2-0! Wait he went 2-0 last year before his team dropped 10 games in a row and ending the year at 2-10. It’s year 3 in the Lovie experiment now so maybe this team is much better than last years. South Florida is looking to beat a power 5 team two weeks in a row after taking down Georgia Tech by 11.

  1. Rutgers @ Kansas

Woah now. Two really bad teams within their own conferences do battle to finally say we are the better shit team. Rutgers is inexperienced at QB but their defense has some talent. Kansas is more experienced than they’ve been in years. Something has to give.

  1. Vanderbilt @ Notre Dame

Vandy is 2-0 but it the games was at home against Middle Tennessee and Nevada. Notre Dame is 2-0 with a great win against Michigan but then just an 8 point home win against Ball State?

  1. Ohio vs Virginia

This game got moved to Nashville although it appears the hurricane may not even really touch Charlottesville. Virginia had enough of the rain last week in their loss at Indiana. Ohio is undefeated and looking to get some noise publicly. Well here’s their opportunity.

  1. Eastern Washington @ Washington State

Eastern Washington has surprisingly won the past 2 times they’ve played in Pullman so I’m sure Mike Leach will be ready for this one. Wazzu has been playing strong thus far this season as they look to sneak up on some people in Pac 12 North.

  1. Troy @ Nebraska

Nebraska lost a heartbreaker in Scott Frost’s first game. Troy rebounded well after the beating to Boise by beating and FCS school by a ton. Troy has been known to give the big guys hell and here’s their chance.

  1. Hawaii @ Army

Who would of thought I’d be excited for this one! Hawaii is 3-0 and looking like a dangerous team in the Mountain West. Army rebounded from the Duke loss with a nice beating of Liberty. It’s a far trip for the Rainbow Warriors but they’ve had their back to the wall all year.

  1. Georgia Tech @ Pittsburgh

Georgia Tech didn’t just lose a game to South Florida. They also lost their starting RB for the year and continued to do some of the more questionable head coaching I’ve ever seen. Pittsburgh was playing Penn State close before the wheels fell off. This is one of those ACC games that you just take a gamble on. GT for the win? I guess.

  1. Duke @ Baylor

Duke was looking so good and then literally their 2 best players got injured and not just for a game or two but for long periods of time. Baylor is 2-0 but they’ve won a bit uglier. Can they handle the beat up Blue Devils?

  1. Houston @ Texas Tech

Well, Houston sure woke up from the Rice game where they looked asleep at the wheel for most the game. The Cougars are 2-0 and heading into Texas Tech where the Red Raiders are fresh off dropping 70 plus points on FCS Lamar. This one should be a fun shootout to watch.

  1. Miami (FL) @ Toledo

Miami rebounded against Savannah State but then again my high school team could rebound against Savannah State. Still, they did what they had to do. Toledo is undefeated and looking for revenge after losing at Miami last year.

  1. Boston College @ Wake Forest (Thurs)

This was always a Thurs game but the time has moved up since Winston Salem is probably still in the Hurricane zone. Both these teams are undefeated so something has to give. Give me BC minus the points.

  1. Arizona State @ San Diego State

San Diego State will be without their senior QB Christian Chapman which will be a huge blow. Especially since AZ State’s D Coordinator was San Diego State’s DC last year. ASU continues to roll against our gals.

  1. Florida State @ Syracuse

Florida State sure looked awful last week needing a touchdown late to beat Samford from the FCS. Syracuse is dropping 60 on everyone they play. That’s not a good formula for FSU but then again it’s Syracuse.

  1. Alabama @ Ole Miss

Ole Miss sure has an offense that can put up a ton of points but can they do it against Bama? Or perhaps the better question is if the Rebels defense can stop the Bama offense.

  1. BYU @ Wisconsin

BYU is 1-1 after losing to Cal in a close one last week. Wisconsin has been underachieving a bit for my taste. Still, the Badgers should handle the Cougars in Madison. Should be a good one though.

  1. Oklahoma @ Iowa State

Iowa State and Matt Campbell just can’t get past Iowa. Now Campbell welcomes Oklahoma. Ouch. Oklahoma may be looking like the best team in the country the way the offense is rolling but they did lose their star RB Rodney Anderson for the year last week.

  1. Missouri @ Purdue

Missouri is 2-0 and looking for revenge after Purdue blew out the Tigers in Columbia last year. This year the tables are turned a bit and the Boilermakers are 0-2 after losing a heartbreaker to Eastern Michigan. Time to wake up if you’re a Boilermakers fan.

  1. USC @ Texas

Both these teams haven’t looked great so far this year but when they met in Los Angeles last year they sure gave us a classic. That alone is the reason to watch. The loser here is going to feel some heat I can bet you that.

  1. Boise State @ Oklahoma State

Boise State has had to have this one circled all offseason. They’re most likely to be favored in every other game this season and it’s their most experienced team in some time. Oklahoma State has been rolling thus far but hasn’t played any real competition. Give me Boise in an upset.

  1. Washington @ Utah

Washington has no room for error they need to handle this Utah team. Utah is normally amazing at home in Salt Lake City. So this is must watch tv and possibly a rematch in the PAC 12 championship could be looming.

  1. Ohio State @ TCU (Arlington)

The last of the games Urban Meyer has to sit out. Ohio State has looked amazing thus far but TCU isn’t Rutgers or Oregon State. TCU is 2-0 and after sleeping their way through the first half against SMU the Horned Frogs woke up and ended up destroying the Mustangs.

  1. LSU @ Auburn

Oh man. Last year’s game was a classic. This year should be the same with both teams believing they are contenders to win the SEC West. Both teams looked great in week 1 games and both teams blew out really garbage FCS teams. Something’s got to give.
