Week Two College Football Importance Guide

  1. ALABAMA STATE @ AUBURN (SAT)

Why is this game even being played? Alabama State is coming off a nice overtime win against Tuskegee. Yes, who knew that Tuskegee weren’t all airmen in World War 2. Apparently they play football there too. Alabama State was a below average team last year and well yeah why the hell is Auburn even playing them?

  1. SAMFORD @ FLORIDA STATE (SAT)

Oh man. Kudos to Florida State for playing this tough matchup. I’m being sarcastic if you can’t tell. Samford is 1-0 so far this season after they destroyed a division II school called Shorter University. I swear you can’t make this shit up. Samford beat them 66-9 and well now they’re coming for you Seminoles.

  1. NORTH DAKOTA @ WASHINGTON (SAT)

North Dakota was just 3-8 last season but they’re off to a nice 1-0 start after a blowout win against Mississippi Valley State. Why they are playing Washington? Who knows. At least Washington plays 11 power 5 schools though. This is going to be blowout city.

  1. INDIANA STATE @ LOUISVILLE (SAT)

Indiana State is 1-0 and coming off a blowout win against some school called Quincy University. If you’re a fan of Indiana State you gotta be excited about that first win because it already is an improvement on last years 0-11 season. Why the hell is this game happening?

  1. SAVANNAH STATE @ MIAMI (FL) (SAT)

Savannah State is coming off a nice blowout loss to UAB where they lost 52-0. That was UAB aren’t we excited they have Miami this week? Terrible.

  1. PORTLAND STATE @ OREGON (SAT)

I normally give credit to all the PAC 12 for their scheduling ways. 9 conference games and normally one or two big boys from power 5 conferences. Oregon would be the lone Pac 12 school that cream puffed up their schedule. Bowling Green, San Jose State and Portland State. Portland State was winless last year. Winless. They played at Nevada in week 1 and lost 72-19. Shame on the ducks for scheduling this.

  1. SE LOUISIANA @ LSU (SAT)

SE Louisiana lost in a close one against FBS Louisiana Monroe last saturday 34-31. This week they get to play another FBS school for Louisiana. Last year SE Louisiana was a nice 6-5 on the FBS level which means this should be a game for maybe two minutes. Why is this a real scheduled game?

  1. WILLIAM & MARY @ VIRGINIA TECH (SAT)

Virginia Tech just scored their biggest road win in some time. William & Mary is coming off a nice road win over Bucknell 14-7 but let’s not get this jaded. William & Mary was just 2-9 last year on the FCS level. Yes, they have a classic head coach in Jimmy Laycock who’s made it known this is final season after being the head coach at William & Mary for 38 years winning 6 championships. So perhaps this game should of never been scheduled but I’m still a tiny bit intrigued to see if his players show up for this one.

  1. INCARNATE WORD @ NORTH TEXAS (SAT)

Incarnate Word was just 1-10 in 2017 and well they started off 2018 playing against the Mountain West’s New Mexico where they lost 62-30. North Texas is coming off a nice revenge blowout win against SMU. This game will be over early.

  1. HOLY CROSS @ BOSTON COLLEGE (SAT)

Holy Cross is coming off a tough 7 point loss at Colgate and well Boston College is next on the schedule. Holy Cross did almost pull an upset off last year against UCONN but ugh Boston College is a bit better than UCONN. This game will be over early.

  1. SOUTH CAROLINA STATE @ CENTRAL FLORIDA (SAT)

South Carolina State was just 3-8 on the FCS level last year and they’re already 0-1 this season after losing 37-6 against the Sun Belts Georgia Southern. UCF is a bit better than Georgia Southern if you feel me. This game will be blowout city.

  1. WAGNER @ SYRACUSE (SAT)

Holy shit Syracuse won a road game against a decent Western Michigan team. Dino Babers is doing things up there. Wagner was 4-7 last season and their best player grad transferred to a FBS school in the offseason. However they did manage to beat Bowie State 40-23 in week 1. Blowout city yet again.

  1. TOWSON @ WAKE FOREST (SAT)

The Towson Tigers are 1-0 after a nice blowout win on the road at Morgan State. Tom Flacco, Joe’s brother is the starting QB for the Tigers. Wake is coming off an overtime win at Tulane. Towson was just 5-6 last year but Flacco was at Rutgers last season. Wake blows them out but perhaps not as bad as the line.

  1. EAST TENNESSEE STATE @ TENNESSEE (SAT)

East Tennessee State is coming off a nice 28-7 over a school called Mars Hill. The Buccaneers were just 4-7 on the FCS level last year so kudos to Tennessee for scheduling such a challenging opponent. Blowout city here but I”m still riding with ETSU and the points.

  1. FLORIDA A&M @ TROY (SAT)

A&M was just 3-8 last season but they opened up this year with a nice 41-7 win over Fort Valley State. Troy is coming off a home blowout loss to Boise State. Troy gets blowout revenge and destroys A&M.

  1. SOUTHERN ILLINOIS @ OLE MISS (SAT)

The Salukis of Southern Illinois are coming off a 4-7 season but they’re 1-0 after a 49-10 over Murray State. Ole Miss destroyed Texas Tech in Houston but let’s be honest. Why the hell are they playing Southern Illinois? Terrible. Blowout city again.

  1. TEXAS SOUTHERN @ TEXAS STATE (SAT)

Texas Southern is coming off a nice 2-9 season but they’re 1-0 this season. Texas State is coming off a blowout loss at Rutgers. Perhaps this could be a good one but Texas State should run away with this one.

  1. SOUTHERN @ LOUISIANA TECH (SAT)

Louisiana Tech came up with a nice road win at South Alabama. Southern got destroyed at TCU and they’re coming off a losing season. This screams blowout city again.

  1. LAMAR @ TEXAS TECH (SAT)

Lamar is 1-0 and coming off a 63 point win against Kentucky Christian. Texas Tech got blown out by Ole Miss and lost their starting QB McLean Carter. With that said the system is pretty much plug and play. Give me Texas Tech in this one.

  1. SACRAMENTO STATE @ SAN DIEGO STATE (SAT)

The Horners of Sacramento are coming off a 48 point home win and now hit the road to travel to our gals of San Diego State. The Aztecs are coming off a tough road loss at Stanford. San Diego State wins big in this one.

  1. MORGAN STATE @ AKRON (SAT)

Morgan State is coming off a losing season and opened up the season with a loss to Morgan State. Akron was supposed to play at Nebraska but the game was cancelled due to weather. I’ll go Akron in another blowout.

  1. SAN JOSE STATE @ WASHINGTON STATE (SAT)

San Jose State might be the worst FBS team in the country. It’s probably UTEP but San Jose State isn’t far behind. The Spartans are coming off a home loss to Dan Hawkins and UC Davis. Washington State is coming off a huge road win at Wyoming. Give me Wazzu in a blowout.

  1. EASTERN KENTUCKY @ MARSHALL (SAT)

EKU is coming off a 26 point win against Morehouse State and despite wanting to be a FBS team they were pretty bad last year. Marshall is coming off a nice road win at Miami (OH). Marshall blows them out and reminds EKU why they shouldn’t be a FBS.

  1. BALL STATE @ NOTRE DAME (SAT)

These teams have surprisingly never played one other. Ball State is coming off a nice blowout win over Central Connecticut State and Notre Dame took care of Michigan in South Bend. This game will most likely be blowout city.

  1. YOUNGSTOWN STATE @ WEST VIRGINIA (SAT)

Youngstown State may have played for the FCS Championship 2 years ago but the Penguins are coming off a tough home loss to Butler. West Virginia destroyed Tennessee in a neutral site game. I’m thinking blowout city here in Morgantown.

  1. ARKANSAS STATE @ ALABAMA (SAT)

Arkansas State is coming off a nice bowl season last year and this year they are 1-0 after a 27 points over SE Missouri. Alabama is coming off a nice neutral site blowout over Louisville. Who are we kidding Bama is going to blow out Arkansas State.

  1. UT MARTIN @ MIDDLE TENNESSEE (SAT)

UT Martin is coming off a 37 point loss at Missouri. Middle Tennessee is coming off a blowout loss to Vanderbilt. Middle Tennessee will get back on track with a nice blowout.

  1. UTEP @ UNLV (SAT)

UTEP is most likely the worst team in the FBS yet again. Last week Northern Arizona came in to El Paso, Texas and destroyed the Miners. UNLV is coming off a tough road loss where they played USC pretty tough. Utep has got to hit the road now? Give me UNLV in another blowout.

  1. SOUTH ALABAMA @ OKLAHOMA STATE (SAT)

South Alabama lost a close one at home to Louisiana Tech and now hit the road to go to Stillwater. Look, I don’t mind this game, especially since OK State played at South Alabama last year or the year before but this game screams blowout.

  1. NORTH CAROLINA @ EAST CAROLINA (SAT)

East Carolina is coming off a pathetic loss to North Carolina A&T. The 2 minute drill ECU tried to pull of was the most pathetic 2 minute drill I’ve ever seen. North Carolina still has a ton of players suspended but ECU is that bad. This game should be over by half.

  1. APPALACHIAN STATE @ CHARLOTTE (SAT)

Charlotte only had one win all last season and they’ve already tied their win total from last season with a nice win over FCS Fordham in week 1. App State as we all know by now, should of beat Penn State but came up short. I’m thinking revenge for App State as they get their first win of the season.

  1. UCONN @ BOISE STATE (SAT)

Uconn is still a few years away we’ve established that. Central Florida went into New Haven and destroyed the Huskies and now the Huskies hit the road to take on Boise State. Ouch. This game is going to be a blowout win for Boise.

  1. WESTERN MICHIGAN @ MICHIGAN (SAT)

Western Michigan lost a shootout at home against Syracuse and now have to hit the road to take on what should be a very angry Michigan team. Michigan wins big in this one.

  1. NEW MEXICO @ WISCONSIN (SAT)

New Mexico notched a nice blowout win against FCS Incarnate Word and now travel to Madison, Wisconsin to take on the Badgers. The Badgers offense struggled a bit in a nice blowout win against Western Kentucky. Look for them to continue to blow these teams out and perhaps score some more points for the offense needs to improve before Big 10 conference play.

  1. RUTGERS @ OHIO STATE (SAT)

The Rutgers defense is going to be legit this year, it’s the offense that I’m worried about. The Scarlet Knights destroyed Texas State from the Sun Belt in week 1 and now have to travel to Columbus, Ohio. Ohio State may be in F you mode after dropping 77 on Oregon State. This one should be over early even with Rutgers having a great D.

  1. MARYLAND @ BOWLING GREEN (SAT)

Matt Canada starts his head coaching career off with a nice win over Texas and now hits the road to take on Bowling Green. Kudos to Maryland for playing at a group of 5 school. Bowling Green is coming off a nasty blowout loss to Oregon and now’s their chance to get revenge. I doubt it happens but who knows.

  1. TCU @ SMU (FRI)

SMU is coming off a blowout loss at North Texas and now has to play TCU. That means it’s going to be a rough start to the season for the Mustangs. TCU rolls big in this one.

  1. RICE @ HAWAII (SAT)

Has there been a better story this season so far than the Hawaii Rainbow Warriors? Hawaii is blowing everyone out with an electric offense and a optimistic defense. Rice is 1-1 and after looking awful in week 1 win they came out with a solid performance against Houston and ended up covering. I like Hawaii to continue their winning ways here.

  1. NICHOLLS @ TULANE (SAT)

Nicholls is fresh off an overtime win at Kansas and poised to make it 2 FBS opponents in a row. Tulane is coming off a tough home overtime loss to Wake Forest. Something’s got to give. Give me the Tulane Green Wave to come up with enough big plays to grab the win.

  1. LOUISIANA MONROE @ SOUTHERN MISS (SAT)

Louisiana Monroe barely got by SE Louisiana from the FCS with a 3 point win at home in Monroe and now they hit the road to take on Southern Miss. Southern Miss will be ready for the Warhawk offense. Southern Miss rolls.

  1. TULSA @ TEXAS (SAT)

Suddenly this game has a ton of pressure. Tom Herman can’t afford a loss to Tulsa anytime but especially now after yet another loss to Maryland. For that reason alone Texas should roll in this one.

  1. ARKANSAS @ COLORADO STATE (SAT)

The Razorbacks blew by Eastern Illinois and now head to Fort Collins for a nice road game against Colorado State. Colorado State is normally a bowl team but things are looking down this year with two blowout losses to Hawaii and Colorado and well it’s not getting any easier with Arkansas and Florida on deck. Give me Arkansas to win big here.

  1. UCLA @ OKLAHOMA (SAT)

If you listened to the College Experience all summer I warned you that UCLA is way behind schedule in knowing Chip Kelly’s offense. Well one thing Oklahoma knows is offense. This  game is going to be ugly. Oklahoma in a route.

  1. HOWARD @ KENT STATE (SAT)

Howard is a decent FCS and I like what former Virginia head coach Mike London is doing in Washington D.C.. Last week they gave Ohio all they could handle and if you followed our spreadsheet me and Patty were on Howard plus the points. Kent State played the Illini tough in yet another game that me and Patty called. This is going to be a close game and I wouldn’t be surprised if Howard comes out with the W.

  1. SOUTHERN UTAH @ OREGON STATE (SAT)

Southern Utah is coming off a close loss to North Alabama and looks to be upset minded as they play at Oregon State. The Beavers kind of shocked me last week. Yes the defense was as bad as I thought it would be but the offense is much further along than I assumed it would be. Give me the Beavers in a nice sized win.

  1. LIBERTY @ ARMY (SAT)

I still can’t believe what Liberty did to Old Dominion. Army looked better than the score indicated against Duke. This should be a good one but I think Army finds a way to get the W.

  1. MAINE @ WESTERN KENTUCKY (SAT)

The Black Bears of Maine are coming off a big time upset against a FCS top 10 ranked team in New Hampshire. That upset was so impressive that Maine now finds itself amongst the top 25 of the FCS. Western Kentucky is coming off a blowout road loss at Wisconsin. The Hilltoppers would love to open up their offense after only getting 3 points in Madison. This could be a close one though.

  1. UAB @ COASTAL CAROLINA (SAT)

UAB looked great against FCS Savannah State and could contend for a Conference USA title perhaps. Coastal Carolina is coming off a blowout road loss to South Carolina but get a much easier game this week. Give me Carolina to cover but UAB gets the W.

  1. WESTERN ILLINOIS @ ILLINOIS (SAT)

Western Illinois lost a close one by 3 to Montana State and now look to beat the big boys. Illinois and Lovie Smith finally woke up after being down to Kent State early the Fighting Illini stormed back and got the much needed W for Smith. I like Illinois to continue their winning ways.

  1. UMASS @ GEORGIA SOUTHERN (SAT)

It wasn’t the prettiest but Georgia Southern ended up with a nice sized victory over FCS South Carolina State. Umass on the other hand after looking so good in week zero against Duquesne the Minutemen were blown out by Boston College. I like Umass to find their way again but this should be a close game.

  1. FLORIDA INTERNATIONAL @ OLD DOMINION (SAT)

I’ll be honest. After last week I have no idea what expect from Old Dominion this season. Florida International looked decent in a loss against Indiana so I’ll take the Panthers to come into Virginia and get the W.

  1. BAYLOR @ UTSA (SAT)

WIthout knowing how good Arizona State is one could say UTSA may be in for a long season after that first game in Tempe. At least they return to San Antonio to take on Baylor who came up with a nice sized win over FCS Abilene Christian. I think Baylor rolls here.

  1. GEORGIA STATE @ NC STATE (SAT)

Kennesaw State is a top 10 FCS so let’s not give Georgia State too hard of a time. Georgia State was replacing a ton of players and still found a way to come from behind and beat a very good FCS opponent. NC State did what it had to do to find a way to beat another good FCS opponent in James Madison. I like Georgia State and the points here but NC State should grab another W.

  1. EASTERN MICHIGAN @ PURDUE (SAT)

I’m high on Eastern Michigan this year and they looked great against a pretty good FCS in Monmouth. Purdue let the Northwestern game slip away from them and they should be pretty mad about it. Give me Purdue to open this game up and get back on the winning side of things.

  1. NEW MEXICO STATE @ UTAH STATE (SAT)

A rematch of last seasons bowl game. Last year New Mexico State pulled it out but as we at the College Experience noted this offseason the Aggies have lost way too much. Wyoming came into town and blew them out. Then they hit the road and got blown out by Minnesota. Utah State was extremely young last year. Revenge is coming.

  1. WYOMING @ MISSOURI (SAT)

I’m excited to see how Drew Lock does against a pretty darn good secondary. If anything the problem with Wyoming has been on the offensive side of the ball. Missouri should win this but I wouldn’t be shocked if this was a game come 4th quarter.

  1. KANSAS @ CENTRAL MICHIGAN (SAT)

The Jayhawks desperately need a win. Their head coach David Beatty was already on the hot seat with the new athletic director and that was before losing a home game to a FCS school in Nicholls. Central Michigan covered but lost by 15 at Kentucky. They had flashes of decent play that I’m sure will happen more often against the Jayhawks. I like CMU to find a way to get it their first W of the season.

  1. BUFFALO @ TEMPLE (SAT)

We knew that line was way too inflated. Temple as 17.5 favorite against Villanova. Villanova has been a great FCS school for like 20 years and you know those players had a chip on their shoulder for not being recruited at Temple. Villanova not only covered but they won the game. Meanwhile Buffalo handled FCS opponent Delaware State. This should be a good one as Temple looks to grab their first W. Give me Buffalo in another upset.

  1. AIR FORCE @ FLORIDA ATLANTIC (SAT)

Some experts had FAU giving Oklahoma a game. Well maybe those same people shouldn’t be called experts after last weeks royal ass beating. Air Force is coming off a disappointing 5-7 season but they opened things up right with a nice win against Stony Brook. Last year Navy came down to Florida and beat FAU could Air Force do it too?

  1. CINCINNATI @ MIAMI (OH) (SAT)

Miami was a favorite last week and lost against Marshall and it looks like it could happen again. I was high on this Miami team this year but that’s more so in MAC play. Cincinnati is coming off a nice road win at UCLA. This one should be a good one.

  1. NEVADA @ VANDERBILT (SAT)

Nevada scored 72 on Portland State to start things off. Vandy took care of business against Middle Tennessee. I’m thinking Vandy will be too physical for Nevada over the longhaul of the game but 72 points is a lot.

  1. UTAH @ NORTHERN ILLINOIS (SAT)

The Utes finally woke up against Weber State and put it on them. The 1st quarter was tough but they found themselves and tore it up from there. Northern Illinois played at Iowa and never really found their offensive identity. This games a home game so perhaps they can hang around. I got Utah minus the points.

  1. FRESNO STATE @ MINNESOTA (SAT)

Minnesota was mighty impressive in the first game of the season. Sure, it was New Mexico State but they were starting freshman QB. Fresno State looked like classic Fresno State with a royal ass beating of Idaho where the Bulldogs almost put up 80 points. I like Fresno in this one but this could certainly be a close one.

  1. ARIZONA @ HOUSTON (SAT)

We at the College Experience called it with Arizona being way overrated this year. However we did call for Houston to cover last week against Rice and that didn’t happen. The Cougars were asleep at the wheel for the first half and woke up just in time to pull away from Rice. This one should be a good one as Kevin Sumlin comes back to the place that gave him his first head coaching job.

  1. MEMPHIS @ NAVY (SAT)

This is normally always a great matchup between contrast in styles. Navy is a power running team. Memphis is basically a passing offense. Something’s gotta give. Navy is coming back from a long trip and received a nice ass beating from Hawaii.

  1. VIRGINIA @ INDIANA (SAT)

Bryce Perkins looked pretty impressive in his first start for Virginia. Sure, they were playing a FCS opponent but Richmond is always pretty good. Indiana took their show on the road and came up with a nice win against FIU. This should be a good one.

  1. CALIFORNIA @ BYU (SAT)

Both these teams looked good to me last week and if anything both these teams seem kind of similar to me on the offensive side of the ball especially. BYU has the more experienced QB and winning in Provo is always difficult.

  1. GEORGIA TECH @ SOUTH FLORIDA (SAT)

Both these teams fared well against FCS opponents and both these teams should be bowl teams come December. I have higher expectations for Georgia Tech and their triple option this year. Give me the Jackets minus the points.

  1. MISSISSIPPI STATE @ KANSAS STATE (SAT)

Oh boy this one could be good. Disregard Kansas State barely beating a FCS they seem to do that often. Mississippi State is loaded this year but Manhattan, Kansas is always a tough place to grab a W. Can’t wait for this one.

  1. MICHIGAN STATE @ ARIZONA STATE (SAT)

I know it’s only one game but perhaps we were all wrong about Herman Edwards. Arizona State looked pretty damn good last saturday. Michigan State needed every second on the clock to find a way to take down Utah State.

  1. DUKE @ NORTHWESTERN (SAT)

These teams met last year in Durham with Duke blowing out Northwestern. Pat Fitzgerald I’m sure hasn’t forgot about that one and his team will look for revenge come Saturday. Give me Wildcats minus the points.

  1. KENTUCKY @ FLORIDA (SAT)

The spread is a bit too high right? I mean I know Kentucky hasn’t beaten Florida since Reagan was in office. Still this has the potential to be a decent game. Got to love conference games this early.

  1. IOWA STATE @ IOWA (SAT)

The backyard showdown! I don’t know why but I love these matchups. I’m a big fan of both coaches because they get the maximum out of their talent. Iowa State had their game cancelled last week due to weather. Iowa looked amazing against Northern Illinois. Stay away from this one gambling wise but this should be a fantastic football game.

  1. COLORADO @ NEBRASKA (SAT)

It’s great to see this rivalry back at it. It’s only fitting that Nebraska get their game against Akron cancelled so that Scott Frost breaks in his coaching career against his former rival Colorado. Colorado looked great last week but Colorado State has looked awful this season. Can’t wait for this one.

  1. PENN STATE @ PITTSBURGH (SAT)

The true backyard brawl! Yes this is another rivalry game that should happen every year. Penn State is very lucky to be undefeated right now and Pittsburgh is flying under the radar. This should come down to the 4th quarter.

  1. USC @ STANFORD (SAT)

Both teams took a while to wake up in Week 1 but once they did things got rolling fast. USC is starting a true freshman at QB and this will be his first road test. Bryce Love was pretty bottled up last week against San Diego State but I’m sure he’s had this one circled.

  1. CLEMSON @ TEXAS A&M (SAT)

Oh man. Jimbo is back playing Clemson. FSU always played them tough with Jimbo but this is a new school and it’s just his 2nd game but yet I still think Jimbo will have his players ready when Clemson comes to town on Saturday night.

  1. GEORGIA @ SOUTH CAROLINA (SAT)

Talk about a huge game that could end up deciding the SEC East. Georgia is everyone’s favorite this year for the east but don’t think South Carolina hasn’t heard all of that talk all offseason. Give me the Gamecocks and the points for this one. This place should be rocking.
