Sides & Total
The Phillies look to keep their dream season going tonight against a reeling Mets team. The line opened at -190 and now and -235 it’s apparent there’s a lot of Philadelphia money pouring in. Makes sense when you see they’re 45-27 as a favorite this season while the Mets are the Mets and 21-37 as a dog.
Both teams have been good against the spread as of late PHI (13-5) NYM (10-5) and with the Phillies being the clearly superior team laying the 1.5 at -105 might be a much better play than taking the moneyline at -235. Either way I’m all over the Phils here. It’s not that I think Phillies starter Nick Pivetta is going to dominate (he might that lineup is weak) it’s Jason Vargas and his 8.10 ERA that I’m willing to fade here.
With the total sitting at 8.5 the over seems like a no brainer. Keep in mind they’re not playing in a normal MLB Park here as this is apart of the Little League Classic. -125 seems more than reasonable for that over. I can see the Phillies really hammering Vargas.
Props
I like the over here in general so in addition to over 8.5 Runs I’m taking over 27 Runs/Hits/Errors at -105. This should be fairly high scoring on the Phillies side and the Mets (fortunately) shouldn’t have to bring too much to the table to cover it.
If you’re feeling like you need to hedge the totals here Vargas strikeouts are o/u 3.5. Take the over there if you’ve loaded on the totals. If he’s on he’ll get it easily, if he’s off 3.5 is still low enough to cover in limited innings.
Daily Fantasy Plays Sunday Night
Well it shouldn’t be a shock if you’ve made it this far that my DraftKings Showdown lineup will be loaded with Phillies. I’m avoiding the pitchers here and loading on bats only.
Rhys Hoskins at $10,200 is nice despite the high tag so in order to balance the rest of the lineup out I paired him with Scott Kingery at $4,700. Carlos Santana at $6,900 is a nice play too.
The only Mets really worth a darn here are Michael Conforto ($9,300) and Todd Frazier ($8,500). The matchup looks okay for both although I recommend loading on Philadelphia hitters. I took both these guys because I saw decent value in the 4 and 5 hitters at a solid price. There’s a reason for that though. The Mets suck.
Final Notes
Well the Mets finally get to fulfill their dream of playing in a real Little League Park. I’ve ranted about how they’ve wasted their 2015 NL Championship core in less than three years enough here so I’m focusing my ire on ESPN for giving us this matchup. I get it it’s the Little League Classic and they scheduled this a while ago and can’t change the arrangements.
However as fans we miss out on getting the final game of the Astros and A’s series in prime time. Oakland is on a Cinderella type run lately and has a chance to close out a sweep and take sole possession of first place in the AL West. No one saw these guys coming (I knew they’d be much better because they brought back the kelly green) and most fans can’t name three players (Davis, Olson, Chapman can all MASH) but here they are with a chance to really mess things up for not only Houston but the loser of the AL East race. A Yankees/Astros ALCS rematch in a one game playoff would be absolutely insane. I for one am pulling for it.
