So if you were fortunate to read my DraftKings advice last week and you stuck with Sean Manaea you were handsomely rewarded with a no-hitter. My strategy of avoiding high price pitchers doesn’t necessarily take in Boston being no-hit for the first time in 25 years. But there you go sometimes extremes happen. Unfortunately, they want me to focus on the Sunday night game for this piece. Which means DraftKings Showdown mode. I loved it for Super Bowl but still getting used to it for baseball so bare with me.
Once again we will be going with the cheaper option at pitcher. Although in this format you don’t have to take an SP I like Jeremy Hellickson here at $7,200. If he turns in a modest five-inning performance his point total should be in line with hitters in the same price range which makes it a no-brainer. Alex Wood is at $18,000. I just don’t see value in using that much budget in a guy who’s facing Bryce Harper multiple times in addition to pitching for a team that utilizes the quick hook as often as anybody. Alex Wood is much better than Jeremy Hellickson. Is he that much better on an open market? Dodgers are still without Justin Turner and their bats haven’t really picked this season. For almost the same price as Wood, I can take Hellickson AND Harper which I am doing.
Sunday Night Baseball Draftkings Lineup
Bryce Harper-$11,300
Jeremy Hellickson-$7,200
Matt Kemp-$7,600
Yasiel Puig-$8,400
Howie Kendrick-$7,100
Ryan Zimmerman-$7,800
Sunday Night Baseball Props
As far as props go I’m not a huge fan of either of these lineups right now with a lot of the bumps and bruises the already have. Sunday night games often have late scratches due to the Monday travel days so since I’m already rolling the dice with DraftKings I like under (U) 26 total hits, runs, and errors. I’m seeing it at -120 and I don’t see this being too high scoring even though none of the big dog starters are throwing today.
I also like Nationals score first in a -110 pick either way. They bat first and have Harper seems like they should be favored there. Ask me questions for next week at @scott_bowser on Twitter and I will do my best to help out. This weeks value pitcher should be Johnny Cueto and Jose Quintana. Quintana is in Colorado today and Milwaukee later in the week so that could be risky but that’s also why Sean Manaea paid so well.
