Week 10 College Football Importance Guide

week-ten-college-football-previews

  1. Coastal Carolina @ Arkansas

Coastal Carolina is coming off a twenty point loss at home to a one win Texas State team. Arkansas is trying to salvage their year and make a bowl. The Razorbacks needed a last second field goal to fulfill their comeback against Ole Miss. Give me the Razorbacks big in this one.

  1. East Carolina @ Houston

Two weeks ago Houston blew their game against Memphis. Last week they made sure that wouldn’t happen and they went into South Florida and beat the undefeated Bulls. East Carolina had a bye week after a surprising home victory against BYU. ECU has one of the nation’s worst offensive lines and Houston has the nation’s best defensive lineman. Cougars roll big.

  1. Bowling Green @ Kent State

A nice little tuesday night matchup between two terrible MAC teams. Kent State should already be looking for new coaches to hire. Perhaps their focus isn’t there. Bowling Green has certain games where they really play up. Give me Bowling Green minus the points.

  1. San Diego State @ San Jose State

San Jose State could very well be the nation’s worst team on the FBS level. San Diego State finally got back on track with a blowout win at Hawaii. Look for the Aztecs to continue their ways as they are playing for a mountain west championship birth and they can’t afford another loss.

  1. Rice @ UAB

UAB has to be one of the best college football stories this season! Last week they upset Southern Miss in their own back yard and are now one game away from bowling in their first year back playing football. Rice is one of the nation’s worst teams and most likely are looking for coaching candidates. Give me UAB minus the points.

  1. Ball State @ Eastern Michigan

A Thursday night conference game. Eastern Michigan has had some really tough breaks. Take a look at their win/loss results. The Eagles are 2-6 but could easily be 8-0. Ball State on the other hand started out decent but have been getting blown out every other week. Give me Ball State and the points but I don’t like this game.

  1. UMASS @ Mississippi State

UMASS is finally finding their way. The Minutemen were one of the nation’s last winless teams a few weeks ago despite them playing pretty good in several games. Last week they knocked off Appalachian State to make it two wins in a row. Miss State went in to College Station and dominated the Aggies but there’s a ton of this Dan Mullen to Florida talk. Makes me wonder how focused this Bulldogs team will be. Give me Umass and the points.

  1. Charlotte @ Old Dominion

Charlotte had a nice week off after scoring their lone win two weeks ago with a upset win against UAB. Old Dominion is 2-6 but getting better every week. Give me ODU minus the points.

  1. South Florida @ UCONN

UCONN got blown out at home against Missouri and now gets South Florida off of their first loss of the season. Some things aren’t fair. Give me South Florida to rebound and to rebound big.

  1. BYU @ Fresno State

BYU finally scored a win against a FBS team in a nice home victory against San Jose State to make it two wins for the season. Fresno State started smelling their own stuff and suffered a surprising upset loss to UNLV. Fresno will need to get back on track with a nice home victory as for they still control their own destiny for a mountain west championship game.

  1. Georgia State @ Georgia Southern

Georgia State is another feel good story in college football as they continue to push forward to a potential bowl birth. Georgia Southern is desperate for a victory and still remains winless. I like Georgia State to find a way to get this done and move within a game of the postseason.

  1. UTEP @ Middle Tennessee

UTEP is winless and already searching for a head coach despite them not firing anyone yet. Middle Tennessee can still rally and make a bowl but they’ve been pretty disappointing this year. Give me MTSU minus the points.

  1. Hawaii @ UNLV

UNLV finally put together a good game and shocked Fresno State. Hawaii got rolled at home by San Diego State. I look for UNLV to continue to build confidence after last weeks win. Give me the Rebels minus the points.

  1. Cincinnati @ Tulane

Both of these teams are really struggling so something has to give. Tulane is at home and they run the triple option attack which makes it tough to really prepare for so I’ll go with the Green Wave minus the points but I don’t like this game at all.

  1. Baylor @ Kansas

Matt Rhule will finally get his first victory in his time at Waco. Sure, Kansas might be able to move the ball some on the Bears but this is a game where the new look Bears should be able to out physical the Jayhawks. Give me the bears minus the points.

  1. Idaho @ Troy

Troy is still a contender to win the Sun Belt so this is a must win game. They already blew a game to South Alabama in conference so they must step up. I think Troy gets it done but Idaho covers.

  1. New Mexico State @ Texas State

This is a must win for New Mexico State if they have any real sights on a bowl game. Texas State had a nice win on the road last week to give them their second win on the year. Give me New Mexico State minus the points to inch closer to their first bowl game in quite some time.

  1. Appalachian State @ Louisiana Monroe

App State suffered a shocking upset loss at UMASS last week. The only good thing about that for the Mountaineers is that UMASS is not in the Sun Belt so App State still controls their own destiny to win the Sun Belt Conference. Give me App State to get back on track but Louisiana Monroe gets the cover.

  1. Miami (OH) @ Ohio

Another Tuesday night MAC game. Miami (OH) has been the biggest let down in the MAC this season. They were supposed to be contenders and now they’re just seeing if they can find a way to get to a bowl game. Ohio is a real contender year in and year out and this year is no different. Give me the Bobcats minus the points.

  1. Illinois @ Purdue

Purdue has officially hit the rough patch of their season with a road loss to rutgers and a bad home loss to a struggling Nebraska team. Illinois is still rebuilding and still a year or two away for head coach Lovie Smith. Purdue gets the win but Illinois finds a way to cover.

  1. Memphis @ Tulsa

Memphis looks to continue to roll but the real question will be which Tulsa team shows up? The Tulsa team that blew out Houston or the Tulsa team that got beat up by UCONN and Tulane. Give me Tulsa plus the points but Memphis gets the W.

  1. Southern Miss @ Tennessee

Butch Jones is still somehow the head coach at Tennessee and hey if they win this they still may be able to find a way to sneak into a bowl game. Southern Miss is one game away from a bowl game but they got upset at home by UAB last week and now they have to hit the road to play against a SEC team. Give me Tennessee minus the points.

  1. Navy @ Temple

Navy is in need of a win after some tough losses to Memphis and Central Florida. Temple is clearly in rebuilding mode. I like Navy minus the points although Temple does have a decent defense.

  1. Utah State @ New Mexico

This is a pretty good game considering the loser of this probably won’t go bowling. Especially if it’s New Mexico. For that reason alone I like New Mexico to find a way to get it done and make a final push towards bowl season.

  1. Western Kentucky @ Vanderbilt

Western Kentucky shit the bed at home last week against Florida Atlantic and now is in the backseat in the Conference USA and things aren’t going to get easier playing against a SEC team. Vandy really needs a win after several losses in a row. Give me Vanderbilt minus the points.

  1. Maryland @ Rutgers

Rutgers seems to be playing better and Maryland is still on their third string quarterback. DJ Durkin has had some bad luck at that spot but he found a way to take the Terps bowling last year so give me Maryland minus the points in this one.

  1. Ole Miss @ Kentucky

Ole Miss has nothing to play for and Shea Patterson is out for the year. Kentucky on the other hand can still win their division. Yep. Georgia has to play at Auburn still and they still have to play Kentucky. If Kentucky can get some help from Auburn they could end up controlling their own destiny in the SEC East. Give me Kentucky minus the points.

  1. UTSA @ Florida International

Woah this is somewhat of a big game in the Conference USA. Florida International can’t afford another conference loss if they want to take their division and UTSA is still a player on their side of the division but they can’t afford a loss either. Give me Florida International plus the points, I like the way this team is coming along.

  1. Central Michigan @ Western Michigan

A nice little rivalry Wednesday night game. Western Michigan really needs to win this game if they want to still be in play for a MAC championship. Central Michigan is still somewhat alive but they would need a bit of help from a few teams but CMU is also fighting for a bowl game and thus this becomes a huge game. Give me Western Michigan minus the points.

  1. Oregon State @ California

Oregon State had the game won last week against Stanford and they gave the game away and now they hit the road to play a Cal team that got handled by Colorado in Boulder. Cal still has a bowl birth on their mind so this becomes a must win for Golden Bears. Give me Cal minus the points.

  1. Syracuse @ Florida State

Florida State really let me down this year, sure their star QB went down for the year in week 1 but losing by 32 to Boston College is just uncalled for. This team has quit on Jimbo. Syracuse on the other hand seems be trending up after a nice Clemson upset and a solid outing at Miami. Give me Syracuse to get things done in Tallahassee.

  1. North Texas @ Louisiana Tech

This is a huge divisional conference game in the Conference USA. Southern Miss, UTSA and LA Tech need North Texas to lose some games and well here’s Louisiana Tech’s chance. Give me La Tech to get things done at home.

  1. Florida @ Missouri

Randy Shannon is now the interim head coach at Florida and perhaps he can find a way to generate some offense. Missouri is coming off two wins and they’ve been playing a lot better the past month of the season. With that said Florida has a talent edge. Give me Florida plus the points.

  1. Oregon @ Washington

Oregon came up with a nice win over Utah in Eugene last week but lets not kid ourselves Utah is having a down year and this game is at Washington. Chris Peterson knows his Huskies have no room for error. Give me Washington minus the points.

  1. Kansas State @ Texas Tech

This should be a good football game not only because the contrast in styles but because both teams are fighting for a bowl game. With that said Texas Tech is at home and Kansas State still has health problems at the quarterback position.  Give me Texas Tech to find a way.

  1. Marshall @ Florida Atlantic

And Finally the biggest of all the good conference USA matchups this weekend. Marshall was in the drivers seat but then got upset at home by Florida International last week and now they can’t afford to lose another conference game. Florida Atlantic is in first place in the division and they’ve been real hot late. Give me Marshall and the points but Florida Atlantic may win out right.

  1. UCLA @ Utah

Both these teams have underperformed this year but both are still solid teams and this is a huge game considering bowl game births. Give me Utah and the points since they’re the home team.

  1. Army @ Air Force

Air Force is getting hot at the right time and Army is already bowl eligible but who are we kidding these teams could be winless and this would still be a huge game. It’s a great rivalry and one of the things that makes college football so great. Give me Army and the points.

  1. Northwestern @ Nebraska

Where was this Northwestern team at the beginning of the year? All that hype that they were going to be a contender in the west and yes now I see why the hype was there. This Wildcat team is playing good. Nebraska on the other hand somehow managed to get a nice road victory at Purdue last week. Mike Riley is all but gone but hey he’s still coaching for a bowl game. Give me Nebraska minus the points.

  1. Wake Forest @ Notre Dame

Dave Clawson the head coach of Wake is easily one of the best coaches in the country with the job he is doing at Wake but this matchup not only is against his former defensive coordinator but the talent difference is drastically different. For that reason alone I like Notre Dame minus the points.

  1. Minnesota @ Michigan

Michigan may have found it’s man when it turned to their third string QB last week after John O’Korn struggled against Rutgers. Minnesota is still working out the kinks of a new coach in PJ Flecks first year. Michigan gets the much needed win but Minnesota covers.

  1. Colorado State @ Wyoming

This is suddenly a big time matchup in the Mountain West since Air Force upset Colorado State last week. Wyoming won the mountain division last year and they won’t give up that title just yet. Give me Colorado State minus the points but this should be a fun watch.

  1. Wisconsin @ Indiana

Who really knows how good this Wisconsin team is? Indiana is a team that’s much better than their record. So with that said give me Indiana plus the points.

  1. Central Florida @ SMU

This is a huge conference game for both teams. Central Florida is in the drivers seat since South Florida lost but they still haven’t played USF. SMU is tied with Memphis in the west division with just one conference loss. Something has to give. Give me SMU to cover but Central Florida gets the W.

  1. Colorado @ Arizona State

Arizona State came back to reality last week in a crushing home loss to USC and now they welcome a very inconsistent Colorado team to Tempe. Colorado is one win away from a bowl birth so they’ll be hungry for a win but Arizona State should be able to get the offense rolling against a beat up unhealthy Colorado defense. Give me ASU minus the points in this one.

  1. Georgia Tech @ Virginia

Virginia started off red hot and has finally came back to reality with a few losses in a row now. Georgia Tech is still a contender in the Coastal Division but they can’t afford a loss. Bronco Mendenhall has a long history of defending the option offense well when he was at BYU. Give me Virginia plus the points.

  1. Northern Illinois @ Toledo

Talk about a huge Thursday night matchup. These are probably the two best teams in the MAC but I guess you could argue Western Michigan or Ohio. I can’t wait for this one. Toledo strength is passing the ball and Northern Illinois strength is their pass defense. Something has to give here. Give me Northern Illinois plus the points.

  1. Texas @ TCU

Texas is still improving every week and despite losing a few close games that perhaps they should of won, things are looking bright in Austin. TCU really botched their playoff chances last week with a loss at Iowa State. They need to get back on track in this one. Give me Texas to cover but TCU gets the W.

  1. Ohio State @ Iowa

I don’t care what anybody says but Ohio State didn’t really deserve to win that game last week but hey they found a way. They need not look past this Iowa matchup though because Iowa has a good enough defense to give J.T. Barrett a tough day. Give me Iowa and the points although Ohio State wins it.

  1. Stanford @ Washington State

Stanford was very fortunate to get the win last week at Oregon State. Wazzu on the other hand got beat down against a surprising Arizona team. Mike Leach has had the formula to give this Stanford team fits of late. Give me Washington State to win this one.

  1. South Carolina @ Georgia

Georgia is proving me wrong just about every single week but I’m still waiting for the freshman QB Froth to struggle in a game. That game will most likely be at Auburn but let’s not sleep on South Carolina who is putting together a nice season. Give me South Carolina plus the points but UGA gets the W.

  1. Iowa State @ West Virginia

Iowa State controls their own destiny in the Big 12. Wow. Who would’ve thought that? I hope Matt Campbell stays in Ames but I know the offers will come calling. West Virginia is a tough place to come grab a win at especially when ISU is riding off a top 5 victory. Give me WVU to win this one but I’ll be rooting for ISU.

  1. Penn State @ Michigan State

Whoever made Penn State’s schedule should seriously be questioned? How do you have all three of your toughest games all back to back? That’s brutal. Penn State should of won last week I think anyone watching that game knows that. MSU is coming off a tough loss too and yes they still control their own destiny. I like Penn State to end that though with a nice road win. Give me PSU minus the points.

  1. Auburn @ Texas A&M

Which Auburn team will we see? The Auburn team that lit up LSU in the first half? Or the Auburn team that had just 9 yards passing in the 2nd half? Texas A&M is a up down team as well. The Aggies are coming off a home blowout loss to Mississippi State but they played Alabama tough a few weeks ago. Give me A&M and the points.

  1. Arizona @ USC

Who would’ve thought that this game is probably going to decide the PAC 12 south? Well most likely it will with both teams having just one loss in conference. Give me USC minus the points in this one.

  1. LSU @ Alabama

Both teams had the week off for this one. The normal excitement for this game isn’t the same as years past since LSU despite being 6-2 has had a ton of struggles this year. Still, with that being said this is a rivalry game. Give me LSU plus the points.

  1. Virginia Tech @ Miami (FL)

Miami is by far the most counterfeit team in the country. They haven’t really played anyone good or had any real road tests and yet they barely win each week. Well that’s finally going to change. Virginia Tech has the defense to shut down Miami. Give me VT minus the points.

  1. Clemson @ NC State

Can NC State get revenge for the loss last year where their kicker missed two chip shots that would of won them the game? Is Kelly Bryant 100 percent? These are some big questions for the game but give me NC State plus the points. They’ve had this game circled all year.

  1. Oklahoma @ Oklahoma State

They were supposed to be undefeated when this happened but still even with one loss both these teams are very much alive for the playoffs. Both teams have really experienced quarterbacks but I think the Oklahoma defense is just a bit better than OK State’s. Give me Oklahoma plus the points to get things done in Stillwater.
