Week Seven College Football Importance Guide

College-Football-Week-Seven

Here is my complete list of Week Seven College Football Previews from least important to most important. For more College Football analysis check out the Week Seven College Football Picks Podcast.

  1. Charlotte @ Western Kentucky

Charlotte played Marshall a lot better than I figured but they still couldn’t generate any offense scoring just three points. Western Kentucky barely scraped past the winless UTEP Miners on the road with a 15-14 win. The Hilltoppers are back home and should win big.

  1. East Carolina @ Central Florida

East Carolina has the worst defense in the nation and the worst run game in the nation. Mix that with Central Florida being undefeated and loaded with nice talent. This one will be over by the end of the first quarter. Pencil in UCF head coach Scott Frost as Nebraska’s next head coach next year. Take UCF minus the points.

  1. Missouri @ Georgia

Missouri played it’s best game of the year on the road at Kentucky last week but still came up short. Now they have to go on the road to a top 10 team and hostile environment in Athens, Georgia. Georgia has really surprised me and their defense is playing as good as any defense in the country. Georgia takes care of business and wins big at home.

  1. Nevada @ Colorado State

The Wolfpack of Nevada are no longer winless with a nice win against Hawaii but things aren’t going to get any easier with Colorado State on the schedule. Colorado State is the favorite to win the mountain division and is a lot better than their record when you take a look at their schedule. Give me Nevada to cover but CSU wins by a few touchdowns.

  1. San Jose State @ Hawaii

San Jose State has won only one game and that game to a FCS school in week two. Hawaii started it out hot at 2-0 but has lost every game since so something has to give. Hawaii gets the win but San Jose State covers.

  1. UCONN @ Temple

This should be a really ugly game considering both offenses are terrible. Temple is somehow 3-3 and very well could be 4-3 after this week. I think this game will be a defensive struggle for most of the game but Temple pulls off the win. Take UCONN and the points though.

  1. Rutgers @ Illinois

Someone has to win this game. Illinois played Iowa much closer than the score while Rutgers has had a week off after losing 56-0 to Ohio State. This should be an absolute shit game but give me Illinois to find a way to win.

  1. BYU @ Mississippi State

BYU has one of the worst offenses in the nation and simply can’t move the ball. Mississippi State has gotten destroyed in back to back weeks against Georgia and Auburn so luckily for them this is a way down BYU team. Give me Mississippi State to blow out the Cougars.

  1. Baylor @ Oklahoma State

This game could be a huge blowout but perhaps Baylor is moving in the right direction with decent performances in losses against Oklahoma and Kansas State. Oklahoma State had a nice bye week to focus on this one so I still expect them to win by a nice amount. Give me OK State minus the points.

  1. Coastal Carolina @ Arkansas State

Coastal Carolina sure is struggling in their first year in the FBS level but to be fair their head coach had a health scare and took the season off just before this season kicked off. Arkansas State is a much better team than their record and they’re coming off a nice blowout win at Georgia Southern. I like the Red Wolves to continue their ways with a nice sized win against Coastal.

  1. UTEP @ Southern Miss

Southern Miss is coming off a great upset victory of UTSA and returns home to face the winless UTEP Miners. UTEP fired their offensive coordinator a few weeks back and since then they’ve been a little more competitive. Give me UTEP to cover but Southern Miss continues their winning ways.

  1. Georgia State @ Louisiana Monroe

Georgia State has won two games in a row after squeaking by Coastal Carolina last week. Louisiana Monroe is looking to be a decent Sun Belt team and is pushing towards a bowl game. Give me LA Monroe minus the points.

  1. Kansas @ Iowa State

The question for this game will be how Iowa State rebounds after such a marquee victory at Oklahoma. I think Matt Campbell is one of the best unknown coaches in America and I love what he’s doing at ISU. Iowa State not only beat Oklahoma as a thirty point dog they also did it with their backup quarterback. Kansas is awful as usual but remember the Jayhawks always get up for a game or two a year and always scare or beat another big 12 team. Just ask Texas. Give me Iowa State to get the W.

  1. New Mexico State @ Georgia Southern

New Mexico State is 2-4 but they’re better than their record. New Mexico State is coming off a tough loss at Appalachian State where the Aggies had their chances to win the game and blew a 2nd half lead. Head coach Doug Martin has his team playing at such a high level despite their record that he received a contract extension. Georgia Southern on the other hand is looking for anything to go their way. They’re still winless and things aren’t getting easier with New Mexico State coming to town. Give me NM State minus the points.

  1. Miami (OH) @ Kent State

Miami (OH) was supposed to be one of the favorites in the MAC and many had the Redhawks playing in the MAC championship but man has that ship sank. Miami (OH) is 2-4 and coming off a home loss to what was a winless Bowling Green team. Kent State is 1-5 and coming off a three touchdown loss to Northern Illinois but hey if Bowling Green did it why can’t Kent State? Who knows. Give me Miami (OH) minus the points.

  1. Texas State @ Louisiana Lafayette

This weeks lone Thursday night college game is pretty weak considering Texas State is 1-5 and that one win was against a FCS team. Louisiana Lafayette is coming off a nice road win at Idaho to make the Ragin’ Cajuns 2-3 for the year. They’ll need this win if they want to make a push for a bowl game. Give me LA Lafayette to handle their business but Texas State covers.

  1. Tulane @ Florida International

Florida International is 3-2 but is most likely the worst 3-2 team in the country and although they are at home this Tulane option attack is developing each week. Tulane is coming off a huge win against Tulsa and they’re trying to make their first bowl game in quite sometime. I like Tulane wins big with their nasty option attack.

  1. UNLV @ Air Force

Air Force almost pulled off a great come from behind win last week against Navy but Navy converted a 4th down touchdown pass to win the game. UNLV is 2-3 and their wins were against Howard and San Jose State. I like Air Force to finally get on track with a nice sized win at home.

  1. South Alabama @ Troy

This weeks Wednesday night matchup features two mid major conferences from the state of Alabama. Troy is coming off its biggest win in school history and South Alabama is in desperate times in needing a victory. South Alabama keeps it closer than most think but Troy gets the W.

  1. Ohio @ Bowling Green

Ohio is coming off a huge let down game in a home loss to Central Michigan meanwhile Bowling Green is coming off a huge road win and their first win at that with the upset win over Miami (OH). Could we have a nice little matchup here? I like Ohio to rebound and get things back on track with a nice win over BG.

  1. Boston College @ Louisville

Boston College still faces the same questions they’ve had in previous years. Can the offense generate any points? The BC defense is pretty good but unfortunately for Eagles fans the offense can never put up a solid performance to match the defense. Louisville has been overrated all year long and their defense is pretty bad but you know what helps a bad defense right? A terrible offense. Give me Louisville minus the points.

  1. Houston @ Tulsa

Tulsa has got to be the best 1-5 team in the country. Yes they got blown out at Tulane last week but Tulsa played tough with Navy and Toledo but came up short. Houston is looking to be a contender again in the American and they’re coming off a nice win against SMU. I think Houston gets the win but Tulsa covers.

  1. Old Dominion @ Marshall

Old Dominion is off to a ugly 2-3 start but we all knew they would have somewhat of a set back with a lot of their skill position players graduating. They’re starting a 17 year old freshman quarterback and with that comes challenges that a whole lot of patience. Marshall is looking like the team to beat in the Conference USA. Marshall gets the win but ODU covers.

  1. Appalachian State @ Idaho

Appalachian State had somewhat been a little bit of a let down so far this year but they did get a nice come from behind win last week against New Mexico State. Perhaps that comeback win will spark the Mountaineers team and finally get them playing to their full potential. Idaho is 2-3 and coming off a home loss to Louisiana Lafayette. Give me App State minus the points.

  1. Cincinnati @ South Florida

Cincinnati was getting blown out at home last week to Central Florida before the game was delayed for lightning and the game was later called off because of it. Cincinnati might want to thank those refs because they could of lost that game by 40 if they continued it. South Florida had a week off to prepare for this game so that’s not good for the Bearcats. Give me South Florida minus the points.

  1. Middle Tennessee @ UAB

UAB has been somewhat of a surprise and is coming off a huge home upset of Louisiana Tech. Middle Tennessee has been somewhat of a let down despite their nice road victory at Syracuse earlier in the year. I think this could be a good game. Give me UAB plus the points in this one.

  1. Akron @ Western Michigan

Western Michigan is coming off a nice seven overtime win at Buffalo in one of the better games of the season. Akron is coming off a nice 31-3 beating of Ball State to put the Zips back at .500. Akron is better than their record but give me WMU to win the game.

  1. New Mexico @ Fresno State

New Mexico had the week off after their impressive blowout win against Air Force. Fresno State is coming a nice win at San Jose State. Both teams are 3-2 and thinking bowl game. Jeff Tedford has Fresno going in the right direction while Bob Davie has New Mexico being a decent mid major year in and year out. Give me New Mexico plus the points in this one.

  1. Toledo @ Central Michigan

Central Michigan finally came up with a huge win last week beating Ohio on the road and now they’ll face the other preseason favorite from the MAC in Toledo. Toledo is coming off a nice win against a pretty good Eastern Michigan team. Give me Toledo minus the points in this one.

  1. Vanderbilt @ Ole Miss

Ole Miss is already thinking next year so it’s hard to get excited for this one. Vanderbilt just wants to make a bowl game after losing three games in a row. The real question will be if Ole Miss cares about this game. If they do than perhaps this could be a decent game. Regardless give me Vanderbilt to win.

  1. Wyoming @ Utah State

Josh Allen and Wyoming are the reigning mountain division champs and i’m sure Utah State hasn’t forgot that. Utah State got smacked in the mouth last week against Colorado State but they’re still a player in the division so this is a huge game for them. Wyoming is undefeated in conference and could pose a threat to Colorado State and Boise State. Give me Wyoming plus the points.

  1. Northern Illinois @ Buffalo

Buffalo has really exceeded anyone expectations and they’ve had some tough luck at that. They were playing with Minnesota in the 4th quarter but came up short. They were dominating Army for most the game but Army rallied and won a game they should of lost. Then last week Buffalo loses at home to Western Michigan in seven overtimes. Talk about a heartbreaker. Northern Illinois is another quality team that should beat Buffalo. Give me Northern Illinois minus the points.

  1. Eastern Michigan @ Army

Army is 4-2 and has another bowl appearance in their sight.  Eastern Michigan is 2-3 but much much better than their record. This should be a pretty good game. Give me Eastern Michigan plus the points.

  1. Colorado @ Oregon State

If there is ever a must win for Colorado this would be it. Last week was almost it but if they want any shot at a bowl game they must find a way to win this game. Oregon State’s head coach Gary Anderson stepped down and now the Beavers have a interim head coach. Will the players play up for this game? I like Colorado to find a way to get the win but give me the Beavers plus the points/

  1. Clemson @ Syracuse

This is a nationally televised friday night game so perhaps Syracuse can get up for it? Syracuse isn’t a real physical team so I doubt they’ll be able to really contend with Clemson. Clemson’s QB Kelly Bryant did sprain his ankle last week so it will be interesting to see what do they do there. Give me Clemson minus the points.

  1. Northwestern @ Maryland

Talk about let down teams Northwestern was supposed to be a contender in the big 10 west this year? So much for that. Maryland has really exceeded expectations despite being blown out last week. The fact they were able to win a big 10 road game with their 3rd string quarterback is already amazing. Give me Maryland plus the points.

  1. NC State @ Pittsburgh

Pittsburgh is 2-4 and coming off a road loss to Syracuse. NC State had a huge home win against Louisville and now controls their own destiny to win the Atlantic. That’s why it’s games like this that scare me. NC State has long been known to blow games to teams they should beat. Give me NC State minus the points.

  1. Virginia @ North Carolina

When Bronco Mendenhall was hired at Virginia I remember saying that was a home run hire. Yeah he struggled in year one in Charlottesville but now Mendenhall is quietly doing one of the best coaching jobs in all of college football. If Virginia wins this they should be a lock to go to their first bowl in quite some time. Larry Fedora and UNC are 1-5 and are really desperate for a win. Give me Virginia minus the points as Bronco Mendenhall continues to work wonders.

  1. UCLA @ Arizona

Rich Rodriguez came up with a huge win at Colorado last week and Arizona might be slightly better than I thought they would be. UCLA had the week off after barely edging out Colorado at home in Pasadena the week before. I Still have big concerns about the Arizona defense as a whole. Give me UCLA to win this one in what should be a good game.

  1. Florida State @ Duke

Duke is coming off their second straight loss after starting out 4-0. Florida State is 1-3 and desperate for a win or they might not be bowling come post season. Give me Florida State to go into Durham and get the win.

  1. Arkansas @ Alabama

This game should probably be much further back as for Alabama could just destroy them. Brett Bielema is more than on the hot seat at Arkansas so his Razorbacks need a solid output on the road at Alabama. Give me Arkansas plus the points.

  1. Michigan State @ Minnesota

Michigan State is coming off the huge win at Michigan and must not let this be a let down game because suddenly Michigan State is a player in the Big 10 east division. PJ Fleck is doing a great job at Minnesota despite the back to back losses. This should be a good one here but give me Michigan State minus the points.

  1. Utah @ USC

Utah had some bad luck when they’re starting QB went down for the year a few weeks ago but they’re back up is Troy Williams who was last years starter. The only problem is they have a spread offense this year and Williams is not a fit for that offense at all. USC is coming off a blowout win against Oregon State. Give me USC minus the points.

  1. Ohio State @ Nebraska

Is this the final days of Mike Riley? They had their chances last week against Wisconsin but like i mentioned in last weeks report Tanner Lee must not make mistakes and not pick 6’s like he does almost every week. Well this week should be the same only Ohio State is probably much better than Wisconsin. Give me Nebraska and the points but I don’t like it.

  1. Navy @ Memphis

This is a huge conference game for the American. It seems like every year Memphis or Houston is primed to win the division after big wins against other teams but they look past Navy. Navy is 5-0 and playing way better than anyone expected. Memphis struggles to stop the run so that should be a big problem since all Navy does is run the ball. Give me Navy plus the points.

  1. Michigan @ Indiana

Wow. Suddenly this is a huge game for Harbaugh and Michigan. Indiana is switching quarterbacks from what I hear but one can’t help but think, can the michigan offense score on this pretty good Indiana defense? I think Harbaugh finds a way, give me Michigan minus the points.

  1. Washington @ Arizona State

Todd Graham has already upset Oregon in Tempe and they were a double digit underdog there if memory serves me correct. Then the Sun Devils went up Palo Alto and hung tough with Stanford before losing the game. Washington is good, really good but I have some concerns on the offensive side of the ball. Give me Arizona State plus the points but the Huskies get the win.

  1. South Carolina @ Tennessee

Could this be it for Butch Jones? He had a week off and now he can’t afford another home loss especially to South Carolina. South Carolina is coming off a nice win against Arkansas where they had three defensive touchdowns. Give me Tennessee to somehow get the win and keep Butch Jones in Knoxville a little longer.

  1. Purdue @ Wisconsin

Wisconsin has the easiest schedule in the country but hey they’ve done what they’ve had to do and took care of their opponents. Purdue is better than people realize and I expect them to give the Badgers a bit of a game here. Give me Purdue plus the points in this one but the Badgers get the W.

  1. Washington State @ California

This is a big time Friday night matchup that should have Berkeley rocking. Mike Leach and Wazzu are top 10 and thinking potentially playoffs but don’t sleep on Cal. Cal was supposed to be terrible this year but Justin Wilcox and the Golden Bears have surprised many despite their 3-3 record. I like Wilcox who’s a defensive mastermind to dial up something to keep the Bears in this one. Give me Cal plus the points.

  1. Texas Tech @ West Virginia

I was wrong on Texas Tech this year I’ll admit it. This Red Raider team is looking strong despite the questionable schedule. West Virginia needs this game though, they’ve fallen short against Virginia Tech and TCU despite being in those game. Give me WVU minus the points in this one.

  1. Oregon @ Stanford

This game would of been a lot better had Oregon’s top two quarterbacks didn’t get injured a few weeks ago. Stanford has seemed to rebound well after the early two losses. Give me Stanford minus the points.

  1. Texas A&M @ Florida

Kevin Sumlin may just be saving his job in College Station. Despite the bad loss to UCLA and losing his starting QB for the season this Texas A&M team refuses to quit. Florida still can’t find any offense and probably should of beat LSU had their kicker not missed an extra point. Give me Texas A&M to come into Gainesville and find a way to get the W.

  1. Boise State @ San Diego State

This is the last big time test for San Diego State with exception to the mountain west championship. Boise State is 3-2 but probably a bit better than their record indicates. This should be a great game to watch. Give me Boise State to cover but San Diego State finds a way to get the W.

  1. TCU @ Kansas State

Bill Snyder and K State have been somewhat of a let down this year but that’s all the more reason why this game screams TRAP GAME for TCU. Everyone keeps talking about how TCU has to play at Norman and no one is mentioning this one. It scares me. I’m riding with Gary Patterson here but I could easily see Kansas State knocking off TCU. Give me TCU minus the points.

  1. Georgia Tech @ Miami (FL)

This is a huge game in the coastal division. Miami is coming off a great emotional win against their heated rivals and Georgia Tech has had the week off. Miami still hasn’t really impressed me this year so I’m going to ride Georgia Tech and their option attack. Give me the Yellow Jackets plus the points.

  1. Auburn @ LSU

This game will answer many of my questions this week. I don’t think LSU is very good but then again I’m not as sold on Auburn as much as the public. I need to see more out of their offense against decent competition to really buy in. I know their defense is great. Give me Auburn minus the points.

  1. Oklahoma vs Texas

This is a big time game. Not only for the rivalry sake but because if Oklahoma drops this then the Big 12 is really wide open. Plus this is the beginning of a new era between two coaches with different styles. Give me Oklahoma minus the points but I’m excited for this one.
