It has been quite some time, but I am back with DFS content for the 2022 Sanderson Farms Championship! I will preface this that if you are playing DFS during the swing season, you are most likely a die-hard fan of the PGA Tour and a true degenerate.
The fall swing is a time when most DFS players decrease their exposure, are most focused on football and save their bankroll. With less people interested, there is an edge if you can really grind and find value.
The Sanderson Farms Championship is held at the Country Club of Jackson. This is a 7,400-yard par 72 that featured Bermuda grass greens throughout. We have seen this event be a full-field main event on the Tour for the past three years. Winners of the past three iterations of this event are Sam Burns, Sergio Garcia, and Sebastian Munoz.
Let’s get into my favorite DFS plays for the 2022 Sanderson Farms Championship.
2022 Sanderson Farms DFS – $10,000 Range
Sam Burns $10,700
This is no real surprise. Sam Burns is head and shoulders above his counterparts in the $10K this week. I am going to play him even though he will be the highest-owned golfer. I am willing to spend the extra $300 to $400 dollars because he is just that much better than Sahith Theegala and JT Poston.
The fact that he is comfortable and the defending champion gives him a massive advantage. We just saw the favorite and defending champion Max Homa win in a weaker field. That is very much in play this week.
Burns ranks 2nd in DFS points, 5th in Strokes Gained – Approach, and 4th in Strokes Gained – Putting over his last 50 rounds. His floor is so high this week. I cannot see him finishing outside the Top 10. His strengths putting on Bermuda and extra confidence from the Presidents Cup will help him dominate this week. And Sam Burns will help you dominate for your DFS contests at the 2022 Sanderson Farms Championship.
2022 Sanderson Farms DFS – $9,000 Range
Keegan Bradley $9,400
I much prefer Keegan Bradley’s price in the outright market, but he also should be a great DFS play at the 2022 Sanderson Farms Championship. Keegan Bradley has a much higher potential than the likes of Scott Stallings, Denny McCarthy, and Davis Reilly.
Keegan had a very underrated season in 2021-2022. He had with seven Top 20 finishes and a lot of close calls. Keegan has also been an elite ball striker that has struggled with the flat stick. Nevertheless, Sergio Garcia was of that same template and was able to win at the Country Club of Jackson. He also should be well rested off a six week break and hit the ground running.
Keegan finished 4th at this event in 2020, so he certainly has to the potential for a high finish. Make sure your 2022 Sanderson Farms DFS lineups include Keegan Bradley.
2022 Sanderson Farms DFS – $8,000 Range
Trey Mullinax $8,300
I will be backing Trey Mullinax a lot this fall. He’s very capable of following up his victory at the Barbasol Championship with a win at the Sanderson Farms Championship. Over the past 24 rounds, Trey ranks 1st in Strokes Gained – Total. That is very impressive. He also ranks 7th in Ball Striking and first in Birdies or Better Gained. The fact that he grew up in this part of the country is just the cherry on top.
With his elite distance, familiarity with Bermuda Grass greens, and a 4th place finish last year, Trey Mullinax is an easy DFS play at the 2022 Sanderson Farms Championship.
2022 Sanderson Farms DFS – $7,000 Range
Mark Hubbard $7,300
Like Mullinax, I’m going to play a lot of Mark Hubbard this fall. He is one of the most consistent golfers in this range. Mark has made 8 of his past 10 cuts. He gained strokes in every single major category in his last start at the Fortinet Championship.
He has an excellent chance of making the cut. And I foresee a really strong fall swing in which he sees his price drift into the $8K range. This can be one of the best opportunities we have to pick Mark Hubbard at a discount. Make sure he’s in all your 2022 Sanderson Farms Championship DFS lineups.
2022 Sanderson Farms DFS – $6,000 Range
Austin Smotherman $6,800
LIV has caused what used to be the $6K range to move into the $7K range. Which means the new $6K range is a hot mess. This range is primarily filled with recent Korn Ferry Tour graduates who just earned their cards and golfers that haven’t been relevant in years. But the one diamond in the rough down here is Austin Smotherman, a surprisingly consistent player in this range.
Smotherman is coming off a 25th place finish at the Fortinet which he was priced at a mere $6,500. With that finish he more than paid off his price. In doing so he gained over three strokes ball striking. But the real reason for the high finish was the magic he found on the greens, a usually problematic area for him. After receiving a stay of execution from getting sent back down into Korn Ferry Tour purgatory, he’ll take full advantage of his second chance. He’ll do quite well for your DFS lineups at the 2022 Sanderson Farms Championship.
