A vicious left uppercut, a Top Rank boxing “bubble” cult- hero and and an intriguing fight midweek in Australia are all part of the latest Big Fight Weekend podcast.
Join host T.J. Rives and his guests as they recap last weekend and look ahead to the top fights in the ring this week. T.J. welcomes in, senior writer from the BFW website, Marquis Johns, and boxing enthusiast / analyst Dan Canobbio host of “Inside Boxing Live,” the weekly internet/television show on Thursday nights to break it all down.
The guys go over the stunning reversal, one punch knockout upset by Russian Heavyweight, Alexander Povetkin (above) over English, number one WBC Contender Dillian Whyte last Saturday night in England. The one punch KO is still reverberating throughout the boxing world and it has dashed Whyte’s hopes of trying to get a title shot anytime soon.
The guys also discuss Middleweight (and former UFC fighter) Clay Collard, who has suddenly become an undercard sensation in the Top Rank Boxing “bubble fights” in Las Vegas. Collard has already won five fights in 2020, including the last three by knockout in the Vegas bubble since June.
The guys also discussed the Wednesday morning, U.S time, Australian Wednesday night showdown between former World Welterweight champion Jeff Horn and Country favorite Tim Tszyu, which may be the fight of the year in that country.
Tszyu is the young, unbeaten son of former Undisputed Junior Lightweight champion in the 1990s, Kostya Tszyu and seems to be ticketed for stardom. Horn is best known for having upset Hall of Famer-to-be, Manny Pacquiao, two years ago for the WBO 147 lb. title.
He has since lost that built to American superstar, Terence Crawford and desperately wants to get back into the World title picture.
Currently, Tszyu is the -235 favorite, but Horn at +185 might be a very interesting underdog play for the fight on Wednesday.
Finally, T.J. and the guys go over the Top Rank Boxing main event coming Saturday night, where Unified Junior Welterweight Champion, Jose Luis Ramirez of Mexico, will defend his 140 lb. titles against Russian former World Champ, Viktor Postol in Vegas.
