Are you ready for some Madden MAYhem Elite 8 Action? The two games Thursday night, followed by two games Friday night will form the first ever Final Four.
The Final Four games will be Saturday night with the Super Bowl and special Giants vs Eagles loser matchup set for Sunday. It’s been a wild ride so far and we’re just heating up. Be sure to tune in.
If you have been paying attention, I have been on a bit of a roll. I went 3-0-1 ATS last week and 3-1 on O/Us. That’s 8-3-1 ATS and 6-6 O/U for the whole tournament. I got your stimulus package right here.
Buffalo Bills @ Kansas City Chiefs
Line: Chiefs -8
Thursday 5pm PST
The Kansas City Chiefs and Patrick Mahomes continue to roll behind an offense that cannot be slowed down. After throwing for 385 and 3 TD’s in the opening game vs the Chargers, Mahomes dropped 441 and 2 TD’s against the Raiders. Tyreek Hill has been un-guardable, racking up 359 yards and 3TD’s in the first two games. As an entire offense, KC has put up 41 points in round one and 35 points in round two.
Buffalo has a respectable defense but good luck stopping this juggernaut. The Chargers and Raiders, both not known for having imposing defenses, didn’t have much luck slowing down Mahomes. The Bills have a top 10 defensive unit in the league and may be more effective, but they’ll need to score some points to keep up.
Points were hard to come by in Buffalo’s 16-13 win against the Dolphins. In the opening round, the Bills offense had a bit more success, putting up 45 on the Jets. Buffalo was down most of that game before shocking New York in the final minutes and snatching victory from what looked like a sure defeat. Overall, the Bills have been less than impressive and should feel fortunate to have made it this far.
If the Bills have any chance at keeping pace with KC, Josh Allen needs a monster game. He’ll need to find success through the air and on the ground. The Dolphins and Jets are bottom-half teams in the league while the Chiefs may be the best. Buffalo will have a hard time dealing with the step up in competition. They’ll score some points, but the Kansas City defense will get a couple stops and a turnover or two while the offense continues to roll. Give me the Chiefs to cover and the Over.
Chicago Bears @ New Orleans Saints
Line: Saints -6
Thursday 7pm PST
After one of the most dominant performances in the first round, the Saints just squeaked by the Falcons in round two, winning 29 to 27. The Drew Brees to Michael Thomas connection has been as good as advertised and Chicago will have it’s hands full with the New Orleans passing game. That passing game has been even better than expected due to the emergence of tight end Jared Cook. After reeling in 11 catches for 122 yards and a TD in the first game, the veteran caught another 9 balls for 114 yards and a touchdown in round 2. With Michael Thomas on the outside, Alvin Kamara coming out of the backfield, and Cook over the middle, good luck stopping the Saints from putting points on the board.
While the Saints offensive output was expected, the Bears have been able to score 28 points in a close win against the Vikings and 40 in a surprising upset vs the rival Packers. Mitch Vick (Trubisky) has been the dual threat quarterback the Bears envisioned when drafting him in the first round a few years ago. Against Green Bay, he threw for 237 yards and a couple touchdowns while rushing for another 83 yards and two more scores. Can he keep playing at this high of a level?
The Chicago defense, hailed as one of the best units in the league, hasn’t played up to their potential yet. Both the Vikings and Packers were able to score north of twenty points. If Trubisky regresses, the Bears will need to rely on their defense to slow down the Saints and keep the game within reach. For the Saints, the defense was dominant against the limited Panthers offense in round one but showed some flaws against the dangerous Falcons passing attack. How well they can limit Trubisky’s effectiveness, may decide the outcome.
As an NFL quarterback, Mitch Trubisky is just downright not very good. However, Madden 2020 seems to favor mobile quarterbacks and has the former Tar Heel looking like a star. Him and the Chicago defense will be effective enough to keep the game close. I like the Bears to cover while the Saints win a close one. Give me Chicago and the Over.
