Chris Trew is a New Orleans comedian and basketball writer for UPROXX, Fansided and Bourbon Street Shots. Ryan McKee welcomes Chris on the podcast to talk about his book, Behind The Bench: Stories from sitting behind the visitor’s bench at New Orleans Pelicans games, which is about his time as a Pelicans season-ticket holder with a seat right behind the visiting team bench. For multiple seasons, Chris eavesdropped on what the players were saying on the sidelines and used creative heckling to interact with NBA stars, including Draymond Green, Marcus Smart, Jameer Nelson, and DeMarcus Cousins (or at least his personal bodyguard). Ryan asks Chris to tell some of his funnier stories, like the time he heckled Spurs sharpshooter Matt Bonner about liking the indie rock band The Walkmen and when he noticed Carmelo Anthony only drinks Fiji Water when all of his teammates were drinking out of Gatorade cups. Chris also talks about the current Pelicans roster and why Zion Williamson seems to be so much more popular with the team’s fans than Anthony Davis was even at his height.
